I bought this to upgrade from another earc extractor that didn't support HDMI-CEC. On paper it looked great. It supported all of the HD audio formats and video formats as well as HDMI-CEC. In reality, it is only passing stereo PCM, no matter what EDID settings I use. No Atmos, no DTS, no Dolby Digital. Dolby Vision isn't triggering on the pass-through device. HDMI-CEC is constantly switching my amp to the wrong input device, making it useless.

This device works great for older soundbars and stereos. My Yamaha soundbar supports everything except eARC (just ARC), Dolby ATMOS, and the most recent HDCP. (Curse you, anti-consumer DRM for making our life difficult while only mildly inconveniencing criminals.) I needed a way to get DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD audio from my Fire stick to the soundbar. Since my soundbar only supported the older ARC, the audio wouldn't passthrough from my TV. This device fit the bill nicely. I zipped tied it to the wall mount and everything is working great.

Long and Short: I can live with the quirks of this product personally, but I’d never recommend it to a non-AV enthusiast who wouldn’t know (or want to know) how to diagnose said quirks. You are probably looking for an inert little black box that you’ll never have to think about after installation, and it might not be able to deliver to that level. It hasn’t for me.When running correctly, it does exactly what I bought it to do. It passes high bit-rate multi-channel audio to an older non-eARC pre-processor. Specifically, my Nintendo Switch would not pass a surround signal to my preamp without this device because of my connection method (My newer TV handles all video input switching for latency reasons, but my older preamp won’t accommodate eARC). This product fixed that specific problem.Big Issue - CEC Latency and Reliability: Occasionally, my audio equipment fails to power on when I fire up the TV. Alternatively, everything powers-on, but I get no sound at all. This is pretty easily fixed by turning everything back off / cycling the power, but itwas a non-issue prior to adding this device to my setup. I used to be able to hit power-on from any remote or controller and everything reliably powered-up and worked immediately. That is no longer the case. Additionally, I now have a rubber band / sticky volume control for CEC-attached remotes. There is a delay when holding volume up or down that makes it hard to easily dial in audio volume without resorting to pulsed presses.Suspected issue: Additional audio delay. Probably just a few extra milliseconds, but I’ve had to redo lip sync correction since adding this to the audio chain. My setup details:TV - LG CX 77Preprocessor - Marantz AV 8801All input switching handled through TV. Preprocessor is receiving audio via the HDMI Audio Extractor, in turn via TV eARC.

I bought this thinking it would connect a new Dolby soundbar to an old plasma TV. It does not work for that this works for an old stereo hooked to a new TV with Dolby Arc capability. So I bought the wrong box see my review on the box that I should have bought to begin with

This device allowed me to connect my new LG C3 OLED TV to my old (but very expensive) Anthem D2 home theater system, saving me from having to buy thousands of dollars worth of new equipment. Worked perfectly and the audio syncs with the video perfectly as well (no audio lag through the box). The only very minor issue is that when I enable the HDMI output on the box - my amp doesn't always wake up automatically. Not sure if the issue is with this box or my amp but it's pretty minor - I just have to tap the little button on this box to disable/enable the HDMI output and it wakes up my amp every time. Also note that you will no longer see onscreen displays for volume, etc from your home theater anymore since you are no longer passing video from your old HDMI ports to your new TV anymore. But I think this is still a pretty small price to pay to prolong the life of your audio setup.

Have set this up in non-eARC configuration. The good news is that it works in allowing 4K to my new TV and HD sound to my old receiver (from an Apple TV 4K).The bad news is that the audio goes to BOTH the TV and the receiver, so there is an echo due to sound being slightly out of sync from each other.- The only way to stop this is to go into the Apple TV settings each time (Audio Output) and manually select the receiver speakers only.- There doesn't appear to be anything else that can be done (perhaps others have found a solution?).- OREI's suggestion was to mute the TV, which isn't helpful as the 'muted' symbol will then flash every few seconds.- for anyone else who may have the same problem, my workaround is to turn down the TV volume when starting the Apple TV and turn it back up when exiting the Apple TV (I have a Logitech Harmony remote which I've programmed to do this by spamming the volume up/down buttons each time). Perhaps will not be an issue if/when I move on from the Apple TV.And as mentioned by others in respect to OREI products, the manual is not useful in terms of explaining the impact of the various EDID settings.

Bought this product not expecting much. I have a new 4k HDR tv, a 8 year old HDMI 2.0 receiver, Xbox series X, and an Apple TV 4K. If I ran all my devices into the receiver first, I don't get 4K gaming and no HDR10+. Now, I can connect all of my devices to my new TV, run the HDMI ARC port out of the tv to the extractor, and then into my receiver. I have 4K 120Hz gaming and HDR10+ both of which my older receiver isn't compatible with. Didn't want to replace a $2,000 receiver that works great and this audio extractor did the job perfectly. I can't say enough good things about this product. No problems with any audio syncing, also. Reviews of audio extractors all said these products don't work, but this one does. I even contacted the company before purchasing it and asked questions and they promptly responded with answers. I will definitely purchase from this company again. Thanks!
