This kit has everything you might need to complete this project. There are scissors, thread, needles, etc., so the kit is suitable for people who might not have a stash of sewing supplies. My first impression was to be pleased with the contents of this kit. It has everything you need to get started. There is plenty of fabric, which is sturdy. I doubt there's enough thread to do all the designs. The pens are very thin, but work - initially it seems like they don't, but the lines brighten as they dry. There are instructions for putting together the coasters, but virtually nothing on techniques to actually sew sashiko designs. There's a link to a YouTube video that has been taken down, and another link is basic embroidery technique, not including sashiko. That being said, I found other YouTube videos myself that were helpful.

Great way to try a new hobby. All items needed. My only criticism would be better instructions needed for transferring the stencil and then how to stitch. I watched YouTube videos for clarification. The price was great as individually purchasing every item would have been more expensive.
