I purchased this to get the broken CV joint out of the transmission. On a Ford taurus. I have done this before I thought this tool would keep the ring and pinion in place so it wouldn't fall down and I would have to pull the transmission out and split it in half and put the ring and pinion back in place, but the instructions say it's going to fall out anyway so I bought the puller with the vice grips on it

On the Ford Escorts 1997-2002 it is about the only way to easily remove the drivers side half shaft.

Used to remove one half shaft on an Escort. The tines are thin and the one use bent them. Now that it's used, it's not returnable. It's a specialty tool with use only on the Escort and Mercury equivalent transmissions.Save your money and use a chain around the tulip of the half shaft tightened down with a bolt through the links. Connect that to a slide hammer and the shaft will pull out with two or three firm pulls. That's how I removed the first shaft. If you don't have a slide hammer, it will get used more than this useless tool.

If I could return it I would but I used it. The Axle was broken and jammed inside the trans. Had to replace the trans. This tool did me no good. Oh well.
