I like the idea of these. If it was my car, I would just replace the gas spring, but sometimes you have to deal with somebody else's problem and these will do the trick. I recommend that you be careful not to overtighten them against the shaft of the gas spring because if you mar it, it will cause a leak, but then again if you need these, it probably already leaks. Good solution for hoods that won't stay up on their own during your repair project.
