OUTSTANDING PRODUCT! I will begin by saying that I am NOT an artist nor have I had formal training of any kind. I will say, however, that I AM a teacher and have had extensive training in how to impart knowledge and skills to students. Because of that, I am often critical of other teaching approaches if they are not conducive to a productive learning outcome. This teacher is amazing. I have always shied away from art classes because my experiences in art classes in school always made me nervous to make a mistake. The attitude that everyone's must look the same always bothered me and didn't foster any creativity within me. (This is something that I am careful about with my classroom students as well.) At the same time, I AM A TEACHER. I LOVE TO LEARN. This teacher addressed both avenues for me. I learned so much about coloring mixing. Layering techniques to produce the proper texture. I learned about painting techniques such as scumbling and when to use short brushstrokes as opposed to long ones. I was also given the latitude to make colors lighter or darker than hers if that appealed to me. I was also shown how nothing was a mistake, but anything I wasn't pleased with, was easily fixable. What impressed me the most, was the beautiful packaging with NO WASTE. I hate paint by numbers that come with 30 different tiny paint containers and never enough paint. THIS lesson, taught me how I can mix just a couple of paints and make twice as many colors!!! I can't wait to get another kit so I can learn how to make more colors. Also, this teacher uses all of the same materials and paints that I am using, which is so much nicer than going online, trying to find a video, having to get your own supplies which are never the same ones, and the outcome is simply not as positive. After taking the lesson, I felt like I had sat down with an extremely pleasant person, and painted alongside her. I didn't feel like I was being talked down to and had learned by DOING and just watching her. It also produced a painting that I am very proud of.I was so impressed, that I looked this young woman up online. It came as no surprise to me that she is a nationally awarded artist. How lucky am I to be taking art lessons from a nationally awarded artist????????I showed her video to my grade level team members at school today. They were so impressed and we are all buying a kit together to have a painting night in two weeks. I can't recommend this kit enough. I wish I could give it 100 stars.

Wow!! I just received it in the mail today and we had so much fun! Painting helps me relax and this is exactly what I needed.First, it was so useful to see the cute instructions in the “how to” find the video. Allison is amazing at what she does and so fun!You get a great deal of paint and the brushes are really nice. The packaging was thoughtful and organized as well. I can’t wait to order more boxes. These are great for gifts! It was nice to do something fun and set phones aside and do this together with my family. Will order again soon!

Retro OahuI want to start off by saying I am a painter and I kept that in mind when reviewing this product, because I am aware that this does not claim to be for professional use. This is more so a set for people who want to make art for fun.The kit contains the following: An 8 x 10 canvas, four paints, three paint brushes (two filberts and one round), a small plastic palette, transfer paper, an image to transfer, the source image, and a code to the instructional video.I watched the video and thought it was clear and easy to follow. I did think there were some missed opportunities to talk about why the artist was doing certain things - like working back to foreground, from the general to the specific, talking about value and chroma, color mixing etc, rather than just doing those things without contextualizing their function within painting. There are colors in that source image that are not provided in this set. If you are following the step by step video this is a non issue because the instructor uses only what is provided. If however you are eyeballing the source image and trying to re-create it that could lead to some confusion. The source image contains a blue, a reddish brown and a medium green, those colors are not provided nor can they be created with the colors you get. I would suggest either adjusting the colors in the source image or include those paint colors in the set. Something like a cobalt blue and an Indian red or a Mars brown. And for the darker green, perhaps a sap green or a cobalt green. The green that is provided is permanent green light. If you replaced that with a darker green, and used the lemon yellow you get, you could mix the two to give you so many beautiful varieties of green for this painting - including the ready mixed bright green that it came with.In the instructional video water is used to thin out the paint for washes. Water is not a good thing to use to thin out acrylic paint because it breaks down the integrity of the paint. Ideally you ought to use an acrylic medium for that purpose. Although I appreciate this set is for beginners, and a medium might add additional cost to the set.The paint is on the thin side and a bit transparent. Perhaps for the purposes of this it's not an entirely bad thing as it means the drawing underneath remains visible for the first couple of layers - important to people who are new to drawing and art.Overall I'd say it's a fairly good step by step little set for someone who wants to spend a couple of hours making something. However I would address the paint colors.
