The KX-FP145 from Panasonic is a monochrome, slim-cabinet fax machine with a built-in corded phone, an all-digital answering machine, and caller ID/call waiting compatibility. With it's thin 7.5-inch height, this model makes an unassuming addition to your office. A 100-number phone directory helps you keep track of all your important numbers, while a built-in speakerphone allows you to communicate hands-free.

The KX-FP145 has a 9,600 kbps modem speed and takes an average of 15 seconds to transmit a page. You can make copies at speeds of 2 cpm, while a multi-copy function allows you to make up to 99 copies from a single original. The 10-page automatic document feeder provides an easy way to transmit multi-page faxes, and an out-of-paper reception of up to 24 pages helps ensure that you never miss an important fax. A broadcasting feature lets you send a fax to up to 20 separate locations, and a voice pager call setting alerts you to any new voicemail messages.

The answering machine stores a total of 18 minutes of messages, split between two mailboxes. A time/date stamp lets you know when each call was received. The LCD screen on the base helps you to navigate the machine's many features, while distinctive ring detection lets you assign various ringers to different phone directory entries, providing an auditory indication of the caller's identity. The KX-FP145 also comes backed by a six-month exchange warranty.

Pros:1. Inexpensive to operate as compared with similar inkjet machines.2. Good quality construction: works well.Cons:1. Copies can be light -- must switch to fine or super-fine.You cannot default to fine or super-fine.Does not have an light/dark setting.2. Paper alignment critical.Holds 30 pgs of paper. Very sensitive to proper input.3. Multiples copies doesn't work. Making >1 copy of original doesn't work well. Machine makes 1 scan and then prints multiple times. Copies cut off part of original document. 1 copy of 1 original is fine.

I recently bought Panasonic Fax KX-FP 145 and am quite happy with it. On the downside it has an overly comlicated speed-dial function. Also, in order to listen to messages on the answering machine, you need to press a PLAY button which is not located next to the flashing indicator light - if you press the button that is next to the flashing light, the answering machine function will be turned off; Not very intuitive, and a deviation from the layout of older Panasonic models. I also don't like that the display keeps showing me how many new calls it has received since whenever - just a useless number that keeps going up. Slightly too many functions for a residential user. But it looks good, and has a small footprint.

Panasonic never lets me down, of all the things working in my apt that have been around for years, its the panasonics. No doubt this brand will go out of business cause its so good and not making money because their products are rock solid and last so long. I love this fax mahine, it was cheap, and it rocks. Ive had it for like 3 years now I think so far. Its a great phone and fax. It has tons of features. I actually dropped it and it still works. Its taken abuse and still works. I will continue to buy their products, they are the best brand out there.

Be aware, there is a problem in my machine and may happen to the machine that you are going to buy. The fax I received is too light and some smaller letters are not legible. Generally speaking, the print out quality is poor. I called Panasonic and they agreed to send me a replacement. Tell you what, the replacement one is even worse than my original one. That was a re-fabricated one. I called again and they said they could send me another one ---- but I had to turn my original one in first. They said this is the "advance replacement program" about. Why I can not keep the better one (better of two bad ones)in order to have one more try? So I decided to call it quit. I have to live with it. Basically Panasonic is a good brand but not this time.

I purchased this Panasonic fax/answering machine as I have another in a vacation home. The other is cordless this is corded. The difference with this corded model is the sound quality on the answering machine is awful - both my husband and I have to listen many times to figure out the message. Also, I've noticed that you have to put one page in at a time to fax anything.

A replacement for a previous Panasonic that served me well but this machine is an imposter. The quality of a received fax is very poor and difficult to read. After a few days it would not send a fax at all, the document would stop while transmitting and the readout would state "document jammed". It has been sent to a Panasonic service center at a cost of $16 and it will be interesting to see how long it takes for its return.Caveat emptor.I shipped to Panasonic service center in Ft.Worth, Tx. on January 3. I finally got it back today, March 19. Wow!! What dynamite service!!!!

This is the second Panasonic Fax machine I have had and it is even better than my other which was several years old. My other did not have the answering machine built in like this one and I really like it. It is easy to navigate in all functions.

I have had to use a number of more expensive fax machines at my former job. This outperforms even those that were hundreds of dollars more.
