I tried it on 2 dogs when I first received it. Both read no chip even though I know they both have chips. It took a while too. I left it charging over night and now it works fine and is plenty fast. It said it was full when I got it but apparently not.

This is a lightweight and compact microchip reader/scanner. The RFID tag reader recognizes (ISO11784/85) FDX-i and EMID format electronic tags and can store 256 tags, as per the manual. I tested the device by scanning my cats, which don't have chips. It did not give a false reading. Then, I tried scanning a friendly stray cat outside, but it didn't detect any chip, so I assumed he didn't have one. However, I haven't been able to scan an animal with a microchip to confirm that it works properly. When I turn it on, it displays the battery level in the upper right corner and shows when it's plugged into the USB on the left side. When activated, it says "Animal Reader," then goes into scanning mode and displays "((((0))))," indicating that it's searching. I wait for it to finish before attempting to scan a cat. If the device is not used for 120 seconds, it turns off automatically, as there's no manual turn-off option. All these details are covered in the user manual. Overall, it seems pretty straightforward, and I'm looking forward to using it. A great price for it as well.

When I first plugged it in to charge it I was afraid that it was not working. The instructions say that there is a charging indicator (battery symbol) when connected to USB. It seems this does not apply if it is using the USB charging cord plugged into a brick charger. In any case, I left it plugged in and it charged.Using it is pretty easy. I put it above the shoulders of my pups, pressed the button, and it scanned very quickly. I have three rescue dogs, each with microchips from different companies (all commonly used in Texas). All three chips were read. I used the AAHA Microchip Registry Lookup (easily found via search... sorry the link is not allowed here) to look up each chip number, and I was directed to the correct registry for each chip. I shared a photo (I purposely blocked out most of the chip number for privacy). This microchip scanner works very well and I'm glad I ordered it. I live in a somewhat rural area outside of the nearest town where dogs are constantly dumped (and we get a lot of lost dogs here too). This will benefit me, and my neighborhood (we have a facebook group and people are constantly posting found dogs). This will save myself and my neighbors from having to load a strange dog into our cars and drive into town to have the vet clinic scan it. I love dogs, but it can very be intimidating trying to load a pit bull you've only known for 5 minutes into your car. So I'm really glad to have this.

Excellent product!I recently purchased the Readelly Upgraded Pet Microchip Reader Scanner to help identify my pets and any lost animals that might come into my care. After using it for a few weeks, here’s a detailed review of my experience.Setup and Ease of Use:The setup was incredibly simple. The Readelly Pet Microchip Reader came ready to use, and I didn’t need to go through any complicated installation steps. Just charge it up (using the included USB charging cable), and you’re good to go. The OLED display screen is bright and clear, making it easy to read the microchip ID of animals. The interface is intuitive, with only a few buttons for navigating, so even if you’re not tech-savvy, it’s very user-friendly.Performance:This scanner works flawlessly. It quickly detects and reads microchips when scanning pets, and the RFID technology works well from a range of a few inches. The scanner is sensitive enough to detect chips without requiring precise placement, and it displays the chip number clearly on the screen. I’ve used it on multiple pets, and the scanner reads their microchips every time without fail. The response time is fast, and it doesn’t take long to get the information you need.OLED Display:The OLED display screen is a standout feature. It’s bright and clear, even in direct sunlight, which is a huge plus for outdoor use. The text on the screen is easy to read, and the screen itself is large enough to view the entire chip number clearly. I really appreciate the sharpness and visibility of the display, making it easy to scan animals quickly, especially in environments with varying lighting.Rechargeable Battery:The rechargeable battery is another excellent feature. I’ve been using the scanner for a few weeks now, and I’ve only had to charge it once. The battery life is impressive, and it lasts through multiple scans without running out of power. When it does need charging, the USB-C port makes it quick and easy to recharge. I don’t have to worry about constantly replacing batteries, which makes this product much more convenient and environmentally friendly.Portability:This scanner is lightweight and portable, making it easy to carry around if you’re a veterinarian, animal shelter worker, or just someone who frequently checks microchips. The compact design fits comfortably in my hand, and it’s not bulky at all. I can easily carry it in a bag or pocket without it weighing me down, which is especially useful when I’m on the go.Durability:The build quality feels solid. While I haven’t tested it under extreme conditions, the scanner feels well-made and durable enough for everyday use. It’s not flimsy, and the casing seems sturdy. I’ve dropped it once or twice without any noticeable damage, which adds to my confidence that it will last.Additional Features:The scanner is compatible with multiple microchip brands, which is very convenient, especially when working with pets from different breeders or shelters. I also like that the scanner automatically switches off after a period of inactivity to preserve battery life.Downsides:There really aren’t many downsides to this product. If I had to nitpick, I’d say that the scanner could use a more detailed user manual for those who aren’t familiar with RFID technology. But even without that, I found it easy enough to figure out. Conclusion:Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed with the Readelly Upgraded Pet Microchip Reader Scanner. It’s efficient, easy to use, and packed with useful features like the OLED display and rechargeable battery. It has worked flawlessly for all my microchip scanning needs, and I’m confident it will last for a long time. If you need a reliable, portable, and affordable scanner for pet microchips, I highly recommend this product. It’s a solid investment for pet owners, veterinarians, and animal shelters.

The reader beeps pretty loud when you click the button to try to see if a cat has a chip. Startles the cats for sure. But it works very well. I feed about 20 ferals each night. Some come and go. When new ones show up that are friendlier with me, I wanted to be able to see if they have chips or not. Works perfectly.

This pet microchip scanner works great! It's super convenient to keep in the car, especially since I often come across lost dogs. I’ve tested it on my own dogs, and it instantly picked up their official chip data. I’ve also used it twice on lost dogs, but unfortunately, neither had a chip. Keep in mind that some dogs might not let you approach them, so always take precautions for your safety before getting close. This device is a game changer—it allows you to access owner information instantly without needing to transport the dog to a vet for scanning. I highly recommend all dog lovers have this on hand to help with stray animals and assist in their community.
