The Raypak 156A is the perfect choice for larger above-ground pools, spas and in ground pools. The 156 has up to 50% more BTU's than the competitors' above-ground pool heaters. More BTU's means quicker heat-up. Extend your swim season, open your pool earlier and close it later. Your pool is always ready when you have a Raypak on duty.

Easy to install and works flawlessly. Only (small) issue was that smoke colored door over display opened hard.

I replace my old unit with this and it is leaking water in 1 month! leaking from the coil near the pipe inlets. Raypak will not help you.

I really liked how fast it arrived, 4 days earlier than expected. What I didn't like was the warranty information saying that it had to be installed by a licensed installer when all that needs to be done for this heater is to hook up the gas line and plug it in. A monkey can install it so I don't understand the companies reasoning for the install limitations. All I know is that if my warranty isn't covered because I was able to fully install this unit by myself than the company will have a lawsuit on their hands. ***UPDATE***- Have had this unit now for several months and it runs quiet as a mouse and is very efficient, I would say about 90% or above. It heats my 24ft round, 52" deep pool very fast, I usually keep it about 86% and it is very comfortable. I also like the electronic controls, especially the one that can lock the temperature you set it at so none of the kids can change it. The gas line in is 1/2" but I use a 1/2" to 1" going to the gas line. I also put a piece of plexiglass on the pool fence above the heater so no clorinated water splashes in the top of the heater to prevent corrosion of the heater core.

Pros- Easy to install and operate, used to heat a 24x36 inground pool . Make sure you use a bypass around heater for when you add chemicals and install your chlorinater down line for maximum life . Do not drop heavy objects on it from heights. This was the 2nd unit I purchased , the first was destroyed by a poplar tree trimming accident.Cons - will not survive a 1500lb tree dropped from 40’ on top of it .

I like the form factor, how it operates, everything about it basically with the exception that it rusts out very quickly and the on/off switch is not very durable, at the beginning of the second year mine was stuck off and I had to force it on, now I'm afraid to try and turn it off. In the second year of use, it was covered all winter, and there is already rust and weird white oxidation appearing on the case. I've had two of these, the first one after about 3 years rusted apart, the second one appears to be on it's way already. If there was an ALL stainless steel version of this heater I would pay double what these go for.
