Have to keep it because it's a school project due Monday. Might try reordering, but if you can't tell Brown from Natural the first time it's hard to have faith they'll figure it out the second time around.Update: Reordered and they again sent brown. Returning. I have to keep one because of the proximity of the project due date, but I don't need the oil I ordered to naturally darken it- so I'm returning that too and another seller lost a sale because the item can't be fulfilled properly. Buyer beware.

we bought this journal to put together and give as a gift. My 8 year old son stamped and painted it and it turned out beautifully. I sewed the pages in and it made for a wonderful gift! I would definitely buy again!

I left mine natural, stamped a monogram into the front cover, and just used a leather protectant/polish on it to keep it a little more resistant to dirt or moisture. It looks nice, is handy to carry, and fits in my purse or tote bag.Decent leather, decent price and I think a reasonable skill level for a beginner to try this kit. I'll try the wristlet kit, next.

I got the Realeather natural veg tanned journal kit (Not the brown leather kit). The leather was easily tooled, dyed, stamped, lined, hole-punched and laced after finishing. Great project for us beginners to try out new leather working methods and tooling techniques. I was skeptical about the paper that came with the kit and how it was bound by thread but it actually did not turn out bad. I did use the Riza tiger thread instead of the heavy waxed thread that came with the kit. I also enlarged the front slits (used for the latigo leather binding strap) with a 1/2" oblong punch. Simply using the slits deformed the leather after the binding strap was pushed through it. If you are going to use the front slits, attach the latigo strap to a large, 2 pronged lacing needle to pull the strap through the slit.

I like the fact that I can make it myself. I've been using these to sketch in for years. Love the paper it comes with!

We got this for our 3rd grade granddaughter’s school presentation using a fictional friend of Sacajawea. It was perfect for the job... especially after she wrote her diary of the journey with map and sketches of native plants and then aged the papers using coffee. Our granddaughter also did a great job and her teacher was impressed.
