This is not a string for everybody. I began using these in the early 1980's on my customized Gibson. I did my best to learn a style inline with that of The Who bassist John Entwistle. There has never been a better bassist. You can argue based upon your taste in style, but he didn't play the bass line of a song; he played the 4 string guitar. The sound he produced - usually with an Amembic was very bright and metalic. He had an internal pre-amp plus a pre-amp on his stack as part of his sound. I found that my Gibson - with Rotosound Round wound string are the only string that gives me that bright sound very similar to John's. without added electronics. The hammer-ons are bright and the pull-offs are crisp. If you want to sound like everyone else, you play a Fender with flat wounds, and probably thump the bottom of the chord. These are quality strings with a distintive sound for serious and professional players. If you play a cheap instrument these will eat your frets so be warned. They are not for everyone.

While they are rough on my fingers, they are round wound strings so that should be expected. I'm sure there are better strings available, but they are great for the price, tone, and being one of the few extra-long sets that I have found.
