Our furnace quit igniting on the weekend of our wedding. Using a search engine indiscovered then possible reasons to diagnose. Jumped on AMAZON and grabbed thus little beauty. Upon arrival I said, I do! Taking off the exterior plate & quickly mounted the new device, a new spark filled the air! She became fully ignited once again. Installation was easy, quick, and self explanatory. Easy for this newly wed DIYer!

This was a drop-in replacement for a Norton 271N in a 10-year old York Furnace. I don't have the model number of the furnace but through a few searches found the part number I needed was a S1-02532625000. It may be a standard igntor for most older York units. Though there seems to be a bunch of different ignitors that may or may not work in different furnaces and it's not exactly clear what differentiates them, besides the part number, they look the same. The picture when I bought this one had what I would define as the wrong connector, but the one I received was the correct connector, plugged right in without any splicing required. I took a picture so you could see what it looks like. Once installed, a 5 minutes job at most, furnace fired right up, no problems. I'll update if the longetivity isn't there though. These things burn bright for just a couple of seconds, but ultimately can wear out. The old one I replaced had cracked. If you've got a furnace that just won't glow, check the ignitor, look for cracks (like the one I show here) and then replace it. That should get you going again. This part worked for my furnace without any issue. But you do have to search a bit to find the right model number.

I consider myself an expert ignitor changer. The only rule is never touch the silicon carbide part. Installed this new ignitor in about 5 minutes, but still no glow. Pulled out the ignitor checked the ohm readout, it was around 60 which is considered a good ignitor. After a few minutes I determined that the plug had to be bad; so I removed it and created another plug. Installed it again. Low and behold it glows brightly and I have heat. The bad plug made my 5 minute job turn into a 45 minute job and for that I had to take off a star.
