I've been seeing a lot of posts from people who use cash register tape to sew their scraps into nice straight strips to then use in quilting or crafting and have been interested in trying it, but it seemed tedious to remove the paper before using and I've had no problems sewing my scraps together into useable sized chunks without using any additional tool. So when I saw this scrap tape, I got excited to try it, knowing that the tape will just wash away after I'm all done with my quilt. The tape works fine. It's much softer and more malleable than a roll of register tape would be, so for me to trim off the straight edge, I had to kind of maneuver the edge around to make sure it was straight under my quilt ruler. But the real reason for the lower rating for something that works fine is that had I not already known about the cash register receipt method, I would have had no clue what to do with this product. The listing images are completely useless and very incorrect.I also find the price to be too high for what you get. I did a quick search on Amazon and cash register tape is about half the price for 12 rolls with more yardage each, so this product just doesn't make sense at the current price.

I started my first quilt in 1968 at the age of 12. I had it finished in time to take it to college with me 5 years later when I was 17. I had no instructions to follow and unfortunately it didn't last long. After my first 50 quilts, I lost track of how many I made, but one thing ended up staying the same for the most part. I loved making scrap quilts. When I saw this scrap tape, I was curious about how it worked and would it help my quiltmaking. I went ahead and got it figuring I could figure out how to use this after I got it.There was not a single picture showing how to use this tape on the listing. The closest they came to showing it in use was a picture of a woman sewing at a machine. However, she was being shown sewing at the back of the machine and the tape and the fabric that she was supposedly sewing didn't have the edges matching! The front of the machine is facing the viewer. When I got the tape, there were no instructions on how to use it, so I ended up doing an internet search for how to use these tapes. Eventually I found some videos that showed how to use this tape. I realized at that point, I had been doing this all along with my scrap pieces. I had used old newspaper, scrap fabric, etc. as backing to sew scrap pieces onto and then with the help of my rulers I trimmed my scrap fabric down.Once I understood how this tape was to be used, I realized that it would be helpful in keeping scrap fabric pieces in line and help you trim them up to proper sized pieces for what you want to make. There are many instructions for making quilts using 2.5" wide strips and these could add an extra punch when adding them as sashes between other 2.5" strips. With some thought, you could really turn out a special quilt, especially if you were making your strips in the same color family as the rest of the quilt. This item for sure needed instructions as well as good pictures showing it being used. Showing someone sewing at a machine backwards is just silly as is having a piece of the strip laying across a completed pieced quilt block, certainly didn't give me any idea on how to use this to make the block and I seriously doubt that this scrap tape was used in making the block at all (the last photo in the listing showing before and after shots and the fabric in the before shot didn't match the finished pieced quilt block). As I mentioned, I have been making quilts and sewing my own garments and other types of sewing for 56 years. Besides the actual sewing I read alot about sewing and have a huge reference library here at my home where I have more books than my local library does on sewing/quiltmaking. So, it frustrates me when a sewing item is listed with no instructions, pictures that show nothing pertaining to the item being sold, and it is obvious that the seller has no concept of what they are selling and have no clue how to properly list the item. This is why this item lost several stars.I appreciate the opportunity to try out this tape. Thank you.
