Terrific unit, that replaced a much older (bigger, heavier, far less features) unit. On a lark, I went for same-day-shipping, on Christmas Eve of all days! - I ordered it, and had it within a few hours! Not bad!I love the lightweight size and small footprint- a huge plus for me, in a smallish apartment. I found the set up to be a breeze, and uncomplicated. You WILL need to BUY a HDMI cable, and of course have a HDTV , ideally with multiple HDMI ports, for ease of operation.Once connected to Wi-Fi, the unit auto updates, and loads app's. I hooked it up to a Samsung 6350 series TV ( very nice, btw) which was already a "smart" TV, but I wanted to try the Sony suite of app's, too. Obviously there was duplication, but some of the Sony app's seem to work better an faster through this player - Amazon Prime Video, for example.Blu-Ray provides a superior picture vs. standard DVD, and is noticeable, if you are upgrading. I found the Sony to be fast, almost "instant on" as advertised. I had no problems playing standard DVD's as well as Blu-Ray. Terrific picture, no 'jutter' or 'stutter'. Playing content from a USB was easy, and vibrant. The design of the unit is quite nice, particularly when compared to other brands that go for generic boxey look - it has style, that somewhat reminds me of mid-century 'space-age' sleek designs. Very attractive.Everything is done from the remote, which is quite intuitive. No problems there. ( just don't lose it, okay?).Considering the attractive price, the small footprint and ease of set-up, this would be a perfect gift - think of college students, seniors, or perhaps a bit of everyday luxury for yourself. While you can tweek a number of settings, you don't really have to- this is an out-of-the-box-winner!

I am using this player as a BD/DVD player and Music/Video content streamer in my office. With the features and ease of use, I would easily give this four stars plus a one star bonus because it does all this for less than $100. So far this player has met all of my expectations. Plays Blu Ray, DVD, DVD-A, and CD flawlessly. Loads quickly and Gracenote populates the file names. I have accessed Amazon Prime and Netflix with no problems but I have not signed up for Sony Entertainment Network yet but there is a fair amount of content there as well. Additionally this unit instantly recognized my Iomega ix2 Network Attached Storage and has had no problem streaming mp4, m4v, wmv, and VOB (SD DVD rip) video files as well as mp3 and FLAC audio files. I am currently using only stereo out (via HDMI) and sound quality is very good, there is an option in the menu to transcode all surround sound content to stereo whereas my other older player would just send front-left and front-right which doesn't give good results.Complaints:Initial default settings have HDMI Control set to on. Apparently this is not supported with my older HDTV so initially there was no picture. I connected to a 2014 TV and it worked perfectly. While viewing on my newer TV, I changed the settings to be compatible with my older set and then it worked fine.FF/REW works fine with all media types that I tried however there is no time slider to show current position vs length of movies so fast forwarding to where I left off is limited to watching for the scene. When playing music from server, sorting choices are not very good - this is fairly typical from what I have seen. When selecting Album view it will play in track order but Artist View will only play all files by a specific artist in alphabetical order (not particularly useful). Likewise there is no shuffle play so selecting All Files will play all of the music on the server in alphabetical order. Work around would be creating playlists and playing from the Playlist view. All menus are functional but not very elegant. There are no shortcuts (to first letter of alpha list for example) so there are many situations where you may end up scrolling through hundreds of lines to find what you are looking for.

From someone who went from a regular DVD player to a Blu-Ray/DVD player, this was a good buy. It's easy enough to use, though, the apps could be a bit easier to navigate. Maybe it's just the remote, but navigating through one of the apps, like Netflix for example, is a slight pain. Once you get used to it though, it's alright. The product itself though is nice, it's light-weight, easy to plug up, and use over all. It automatically tries to connect to my Wifi when I turn it on, so, there's no real waiting around unless you try to open one of the apps immediately upon turning it on. Even then though, it takes only a couple of seconds to connect. It has a soft blue light to show that it's on, but it doesn't affect watching something in a dark room. It turns on/off very quick, which is nice. No waiting around. The button to manually turn it on and spit out a DVD doesn't take much, just a light touch. Be careful with it though, as the button sits on a corner, it seems like it would be easy to snap off if caught just right.
