At 300mm (12”) long, these alcohol proof hydrometers are made of lead free ballast and glass. Made according to the Bureau of Internal Revenue, U.S. Treasury Department, the tolerances listed for these hydrometers are those outlined in Circular 555 of the National Bureau of Standards, Testing of Hydrometers. Each is individually serialized and has a temperature standardization of 60°F (15°C). I sent a question if this would work in giving the alcohol content of homemade beer. My response is that it would give to the result in proof (10 proof =5%). I ordered the product. What a waste of my money! I was getting no reading on the beer. Rest assured, by beer has plenty of alcohol content. I tried plain tap water & got the exact same reading! I had it for a month trying different measurements in the brewing process. Always the same reading of nothing. I felt I had it too long to return & threw it away. Junk, scam! DO NOT BUY!!!

This is exactly what we who run commercial distilleries use to proof spirits, they are very delicate but HIGHLY accurate

The size (diameter ) of this meter doesn't seem to fit common vials. This may be my error but I have been unable to use it as I have YouTube to drop it in.
