It arrived in a thick cardboard box so there are no shipping dents. There is no magnetic attraction to the box but there is magnetic attraction to the latches and handles. There is also 2 support pieces on the bottom of the box (box bottom plate) where the screws attach the anti-vibration feet that attract a magnet. The intended use is to protect a battery powering electronics in field conditions. With a battery in it, my options are open: Powering a trolling motor or powering a diesel parking heater are the most likely scenarios since those activities depend on heavy batteries. The handles are robust enough to lift the box with a size 27 RV/Marine battery in it. The cover latches keep the lid in place. There are glands that allow cables to exit/enter the box. Additional hardware is included for specific installation types. I chose "Installation Mode A: The 4PCs anti-vibration feet installed directly to the box bottom plate."There are no straps to undo as in standard plastic battery boxes. Undoing those straps is the bane of battery boxes.

I am installing a gate operator for our driveway gate. It requires 24V to operate the motor and lights. I have two small 12V 7ah LiFeP04 batteries I can wire in series and a small solar panel to operate the gate but I need to protect it all some way. That's where this stainless steel metal box comes in. There is pleenty of room for insulation as well as the batteries in that box. These batteries do not work well in freezing temperatures and must be protected. The box itself is fairly sturdy and yet fairly lightweight. The lid is not hinged but is held in place on either side with a locking hasp. There are two spring loaded handles at each end that are bolted on. The hasps are rivetted on.I will add a bead of silicone caulking around the top edge of the box. Once it's cured, the lid will be sealed and watertight and the lid can be removed without hurting the seal. The front is identical to the back and each end is also the same as the other. Each side has at least one or two grommet type openings to pass cables through. I will remove one of the handles and use those drilled holes for attaching the box to the 6x6 gate post. A piano hinge will be added to one side or the lid and a beefy hasp to lock it closed. A small weather resistant cover will complete the task.If the price seems high to you, it's not...stainless steel, remember. This box will last a lifetime.

This is one of the better boxes I've found. It's nice thick gauge sheet metal with a durable, attractive finish. It closes up nice and tight and has lots of nice features like included grommets for cable pass throughs and a solid handle for carrying that holds up well even with the weight of a battery in the box. I'm using it as a portable battery box so I move it around a lot and it gets beat up a lot in the back of my truck. But it's held up really, really well and I expect it to last a long time.

Perfect for second battery in my boat. Put it inside compartment I use for anchor. No need to worry about shorting out and compartment with battery can be used for other things.
