The 12" Starrett steel combination square with SLC is made from forged and hardened steel with a smooth back enamel finish. It is a highly versatile layout tool for scribing right angles and parallel lines, and a measuring tool that can be used as a tri-square, miter, depth gage, height gage, and level. Starrett precision measuring tools have been the standard for high-quality dimensional measuring tools since 1880. The powerful tools meet or exceed the accuracy and performance requirements of national and international standards, and are traceable to the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology. Starrett tools are essential for the many products that are measured, cut, formed, or assembled. They are used in a broad range of manufacturing facilities as an essential part of metalworking, the manufacturing of durable goods, for working with exotic materials, and in a wide variety of traditional and newer industries such as electronics, aerospace, energy, and many others.

The shoddy craftsmanship isn't worth the extra money you pay for a starrett. This was my third starrett combination square that arrived with defects. Chipped paint, scratched paint, scratched rule, and the head has edges that were not cleaned up that dont match up from side to side. Very disappointed

This square I purchased for $165.00 should've lasted a lot better than what it did. I purchased a "hardened" blade square, but after 1 week of use it's like any other square I've bought. Either it wasn't the one I ordered or it wasn't "hardened".
