I regularly remove heavy duty starters from Caterpillar industrial engines. 3500 series, 3400 series, C15, C13, C9 powered gensets. This tool works well, unmodified for 3500 and 3400, and some of the larger inline ACERT series motors. The C9's it has some clearance issues that can be solved by grinding down 1/4 of the shouldered portion of the socket. You lose maybe 1/8th to 3/16 of an inch of metal on that portion and it can fit around the buttress on those starters. I have had no failures yet. This is an excellent buy, the OE tool for this procedure cost 5Xs as much as this tool. it is a no brainer.

Combining a short impact extension - a swiveling joint - and a socket all in one allows these sockets to fit into spots where the 3 separate parts will not fit. I've used similar tools by SnapOn which cost quite a bit more and others by CTA that cost about the same. Time will tell about how this holds up - but it looks to be well made (in Taiwan) and will probably outlast me.
