First use, on a 1 1/2 inch pipe, these bound up. Wouldn't ratchet down or release. I had to put the handles into a vise and slowly turn it to the next ratchet, then open the vise and reset, etc. until it finally cut through the pipe. Then had to hold the handles as far apart as I could while using a screw driver to push on the little piece inside that let the tool open the blade again. With nothing in it I can ratchet it closed but it won't release without using the screwdriver.Additionally, trying to make any cuts closer than 3 inches to the end of the pipe and this tool warps the pipe, essentially crushing it. Making the cut piece unusable and about 6 inches of the main pipe deformed.Definitely regret purchasing this and would not recommend

I had high hopes for this cutter based on the number of the positive reviews listed on Amazon. Don’t believe any of them. This cutter is crudely made when compared to a quality pipe cutter like the similar Milwaukee ratcheting cutter. On a standard 1-1/2” ABS Pipe expect the cut to be 3/4” out of square almost every time. Once in awhile it might cut 1/4” out of square but that will be rare. I wasted a lot of time shimming the blade to make it tighter and not move back and forth on the stud; the low quality blade simply bent the next time I used it. As a final effort after straightening the blade, I sharpened the blade on the opposite side to see if it would make it cut a little straighter. The low quality blade simply bent again. I put way too much time and effort into this cutter thinking that it would be a deal; based only the positive reviews that I read when purchasing it. I finally bought the Milwaukee ratcheting cutter for 3x the price, it consistently cuts 1-1/2” and 2” ABS approximately 1/8” out of square every time. This is a perfect example of “you get what you pay for”.

As advertised, this Pipe Cutter is for PVC (PolyVinyl Chloride) type pipes only (CPVC, PP, PE, PEX are all ok.) Works well on PVC. I had no issues cutting a 2 inch pipe and capping it. Avoid on ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) pipes, these are the black colored pipes also used in plumbing applications. If you work with PVC at all, this cutter will make your life much easier, and I recommend you make the investment. This particular brand is good enough for the DIYer or the occasional user. If you only work with smaller size pipes, get the smaller cutter.

Superior Tool lives up to it's name with this guy. Price, performance, ease-of-use all get top marks. There's only two things I think could be improved: more teeth on the ratcheting mechanism (on some of my 2" pipe cuts, I have to hold pressure on the blade so the ratchet will move on to the next tooth), and possibly increasing the amount of pressure on the handle clip (sometimes the handle opens when I don't want it to simply by touching it lightly). These are minor compared to the overall performance, though!

Useful tool. Had to use 2 hands for 2" abs pipes. Clean cuts. Just make sure you start your cuts straight for straight cuts. O reccomend this cutter for the price. Still works great after 30 cuts

I've only used this for cutting 1 1/2" ABS so far, but it has made cutting that so fast and simple. I really like that I don't have to deburr, as the cuts are very clean.Reading the reviews before purchasing, I saw several complaints that it was impossible to get a straight cut. I practiced a little on some scrap pipe before trying to plumb anything I cared about, and here is what I learned. If you're making a cut within a few inches of the end of the pipe, yes, you'll need to be careful, brace the cutter with your free hand on the back of the pipe (keeping it clear of the blade of course) and go very slowly to get a mostly straight cut - it won't be perfect. Otherwise, getting a straight cut with more than a few inches of pipe on either side of the cutter is pretty easy; again, line up and brace the cutter with the fixed jaw behind the pipe, ratchet the blade so it is just touching the front of the pipe, check with your eye that the angle of the cutter / blade is still 90 degrees to the pipe, adjust left / right if necessary, and then finish the cut. My cuts came out as good or better than using a saw, and no deburring required!

This cutter is great for small jobs. If you plan on using this on a daily basis, don’t buy this. The blade chips off very easily and the tool doesn’t cut pipe straight. It always seems to leave a slight angle.

I got this tool to cut PVC pipes for prop making without needing to use a saw and deal with getting shavings everywhere. It certainly eliminates any shavings and the need to set up a sawing station, however, it doesn't make a perfect perpendicular cut through the pipe. Instead it cuts at a slight angle. The mouth of the clamp is actually raised a bit in the center where the blades goes through, most likely to allow for the pipe to bench outward since the blade thickness pushes the pipe outward a bit. This means the clamp doesn't keep the pipe from wobbling a bit and so has the cut go through at an angle. It's only a few degrees off, but if you need to cut to through at a perfect right angle then you'll have to spend some time sanding down the excess pipe. You can try to angle it a bit before the cut goes through to compensate for the angle, but again, don't expect the cut to be perfect.Couplers end up making the angle irrelevant so if you need this for plumping or other construction, it's perfect. But if you need EXACT cuts down to the millimeter, keep in mind you'll have to sand a bit.

I used this cutter to fix my pool plumbing. They cut through schedule 40 2" PVC nicely. I did a lot a research before buying and for the price I highly recommend these for the DIY home projects. I made about 12 cuts and had no issues. Very pleased with this purchase.2/4/17 - Update: As I was cutting the piece of long PVC I bought in half so that I could store it, the blade did chip while I was cutting. I will be buying a replacement blade as this tool did allow me to easily complete my project.

Had a bit of trouble at first. The pvc cutter was either cutting 2ich dia crooked, or just cracking the 1-1/2 in dia pvc tubing i was using to build a project. I watched a few videos, and decided to give it a trying. Just make a slight incision where you want the cut, and it cuts perfect every time. This is easiest with a hack saw. You might get a bit of a bur or shavings, but its a heck of a lot easier then doing your project alone without grips and vise-versa! All in all, i rate its a 5/5 for a great product the made my tasks much easier!!

This one works really well. Having used a sawzall many times to cut pvc pipe prior to purchasing this cutter, I was very pleased at the ease with which the cutter worked on 1 1/2" pipe (butter) and even more pleased at the lack of mess and no need to clean the cut pipe ends. Wish I had bought one of these cutters years ago but I suspect I didn't due to lack of choices and the expense. This tool has a modestly padded handle even though it is not necessary.Ratcheting action is smooth and not so hard to actuate that my arthritic hands ache.Stainless blade is very nice since I don't do plumbing jobs everyday and the blade won't rust or ruin the tool between jobs.Tool is said to be capable of cutting up to 2 1/2" pipe. I can't confirm this but the ease with which it cut 1 1/2" pipe makes me fairly confident it can handle it.

This was the second tool that I bought. The first one stopped functioning properly. The blade does not open back up after the cut is finished. I have to use a screwdriver to pop it back open which makes the cutter much more cumbersome to use. Before this happened, I was quite satisfied with the tool because it did an excellent job of cutting up to two inch pipes at a reasonable price. As a DIY that only uses the tool a few times every two or three years $20 was a worthy investment. I bought another one because it is a handy tool to have and I really don't need an $80+ pipe cutter. When it works it gets 5 stars but I really think it should have lasted longer considering the number of times that I used it.
