The hand brace is an essential and versatile tool that should be in every shop. In many instances, a hand brace can bore holes to precise angles and depths more easily and more accurately than a cordless drill. The problem with using a hand brace is the choice of quality square shank bits is quite limited. Used vintage bits can be found at swap meets or online, but quality can be quite variable, and they will likely need sharpening. New bits can be found, but they can be quite expensive, or quality is poor or inconsistent. This adapter has square and tapered end and fits perfectly in any hand brace chuck. The other end accepts 1/4 inch hex shanks. This adapter with fixing screw holds these bits secure in place. Specifications: 1) Hex shaft accepted: 1/4 inch (6,35mm) 2) Depth of hole: .820 inch 3) Screw position: .275 inch from end 4) Outside diameter: .550 inch 5) Overall length: 4.5 inch 6) Secured with round knurled steel knob

when the Amish aren't around, the power is out, the batteries are dead, and you need to drill a hole.

Great fit but the screw holding the drill bit comes loose from time to time. I’m afraid to tighten with a plier thinking it might break. It does hold 95% of the time so it’s good enough for me.

I was pretty skeptical that this was going to work, but it worked fine. I would agree with those in other online forums who said it was better when it was used with a lower profile set screw rather than that big thumb screw sticking out of the side. But that was easy to set up. As others did (but I didn't need to) you could also drill and tap for a second set screw if you really needed muscle.

I doubt the setscrew on this adapter is intended to go in the notch of an impact or quick-release style hex bit. I have several hex bits that do not have that notch at their ends, and are shorter than the quick-release style bits. The placement of the setscrew allows these to also be used. I did notice a small play in the bit until I tightened it with a fair amount of force, then it was rock solid. I got the same result with a quick-release bit. By the way, there was far less play in the bit with the adapter before I tightened it with force than if I put a bit in a quick-release chuck, just for comparison.

I had to try out tool the day I received it. I tried it with a spade drill bit and a regular fraction drill bit. I have to say IT EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS. For many applications, using the brace with this tool will eliminate or minimize the use of the manual hand drill. Well done company, well done.

Excellent! Allows me to increase the use of of my old brace and breast drill, both of which are made for old square shank auger and drill bits. They hold the adapter, and the adapter holds any modern bit, drill or other tool that has a 1/4" hex shank. Found out about this from the Wood by Wright channel on YouTube

Really excited to be able to make more use of my brace with my various hex bits. Instead of using a quick release adapter like every other tool available on the market for hex bits and the obvious correct solution they just tossed in a little screw to try and hold the bit in. Now the screw can work if you are careful in how you put the bit in. Hex bits have a small indentation where you could put the screw to hold the bit securely. The problem is that if you just shove the bit in and tighten the screw the bit will fall out the first time you go to reposition. The screw is positioned incorrectly so you have to pull the bit out some and fiddle with it before tightening the screw for the bit to stay in. Good adapter that could have been amazing with some more thought on the design but given there are no other options that I am aware of I will take what I can get.
