I needed to get another wrench to put this together. The rake part on the bottom seems to be fine so far, the metal poles on the handle are also okay. The plastic connectors are not good at all, and the handle is short. I’m not very tall (5’4”) and I think it’s too short. Overall this is not something I would have bought if I had seen it in person. I have a patch of dead grass in my lawn (dog related) and I felt kind of silly scraping at it with this thing. It does okay but since it is made to tilt it wants to move around. I don’t think this is a serious gardening tool but I do have hard, clay soil.

Thatch? I haven’t seen a yard that needs de-thatching in decades. (SwUSA)But for prepping or cleaning out a garden bed, this will excel after the main stalks have been removed. This also will do a great job in turning / culling in a large compost pile or culling out larger stones anywhere. And it just might make a good prop in a Halloween display with a pumpkin head. (Yikes!)Shocking delivery: This came in a 17” x 6” x 5” box. Tiny! A recent pitchfork came in a HUGE box.👉 Assembly Tip: Bring your own 10mm wrench. (BYO10?) (The 3/8” and 7/16” do not fit.) And the provided tiny wrench can be used to hold the bolt head. They provided one extra short bolt and nut! The “poser” for me were the two lock nuts out of 7. Logic might suggest they go on the two longer bolts through the handle, but I ended up putting those two on the pivot hole location that allows the rake to pivot to various angles. Guessed more vibration there. And can always move later. I did the handles last in assembly and lightly tightened only. I will be hanging on a wall, so the “eye” need to face the wall hanger. So I put a stout screwdriver in the eye and twisted/tightened it so that the rake would lie flat when on the wall.👉 Note: They do make a 77” model for a tiny bit more cost. Seems a no brainer to get it, and just not install one section if you find it too long. Then you have a back up if one section gets damaged somehow. That additional reach could be handy in a big compost pile, but might be too heavy for some to handle at the end of the pole. This 55” weighs 3 lbs, 10.5 oz overall.Initially, I was thinking 4, but the double sided features, the handle that breaks down for travel, the extra bolt and nut, the packing list, the large built in eye in the handle top…. It made 5 stars.Thatch / Compost / Ground prep rake Vine review. Brand: TAILERNRUYE.ASIN: B0DZHJKCFJTPinSwUSA Vine Voice rating scale:★ Well below expectations. Easy assembly. The rake head does a great job of pulling out thatch. The handle is lightweight but does not telescope. It is assembled by screwing sections together. Buy the longer handle as you can leave a section out if a smaller length is adequate. I should have purchased the longer version and I’m 5’4” tall. The end cap on handle needs redesign. The edges are squared and sure to cause a blister even with gloves

The guts of this thatching rake is the head with the steel blades. I am quite happy at the heavy-dutiness of this business-end of the product. It is durable for handling loosening the top of soil for reseeding. Strong and stiff, the blade head is welded properly, well-coated and outfitted with many cutting blades for fast work. On one side the blades are straight presumably for weeding while flipping to the other side the blades have a curve to assist in loosening and lifting soil. This tool is effective at removing thatch. The advertised claim of simply raking leaves -- not so much. I doubt anyone would find the rake well-suited for fall leaf cleanup. I am however testing it for weeding with some success. It can in some cases be devastating against weeds that spread by runner such as creeping charlie without a lot of damage to turf, but I am just learning how to finesse this use.Aside for the well-made and rugged blade set, the other parts of this tool are well-designed for effectiveness and durability. The handle is thick for sturdiness and stiffness but thin-walled steel for lightness. It is plenty strong so the lightness is a plus to minimize fatigue. The sections fit together snugly with zero wobble. The tubular handle has a wonderful slight texture to assist with grip and minimize slippage in the hand. It is more comfortable on the palms than the traditional wooden handle. With a pair of grippy rubberized palm work gloves this tool's textured handle is an awesome pairing -- slippage is almost zero while the gloves provide near-perfect comfort. The long screws are adequate but the short screws have regular nuts not locking nuts and no locking washers so require occasional tightening. Not a big deal but I'll be replacing those 4 screws with slightly longer ones plus lock washers.Overall this is a fine product that I'm surprised can be had for currently twenty-five dollars. Given the beefy coated-steel cutting head I'd expect to pay a bit more, so this product combines quality and value.
