I bought two pairs of these to use for new install, configuration and service of Dell server and storage equipment. I carry a USB to dual serial adapter, use a pair of these to connect between the USB adapter and the target equipment serial ports. I purchased the ultra slim LAN cables and can get 20 feet away from a dual head unit and not sit on top of it to configure.Unfortunately, one has stopped working and purchasing another pair to have a spare... Between these adapters (4) and 4 ultra slim 20' LAN cables (two LAN, two for the serial connectivity), they take up less room than one 15' null modem serial cable and weigh less too.Four stars only because I expected them to last longer without issues.

Purchased for work. Exactly what I was looking for seem to be good quality and are holding up to the strain we put them through overall good product not much more to say.

Bought a set in 2015 and works well, unfortunately lost one of the two pieces, had to buy another set.I used them to configure the older Dell, SMC switches. Some people point out to the pin-outs, but the pin is ok.In order for this to work, it must be used in pairs. So, if you plug one to the one end of Cisco Console cable, that is not a null modem cable and it will not work. For me, a Dell E6520- I use a USB to serial connector --> Null1 --> Ethernet cable --> Null2 --> Dell switch. If you are using USB to Serial, make sure that your Comm App is selecting the correct Comm port.Certainly, make sure the speed, parity, stop-bit and flow are properly set. This works.======== Updated 4/27/2016Got the null modem, and they came in as modular kit not assembled. This is not null modem, they should come assembled. the one not in the bag was 1/2 I did not loss. It comes assembled and ready to use. This one is going back.======== Updated 4/30/2016I guest the one is not going back, the company KnowU sold a part that is not genuine Tripp Lite part. They answered the RMA quickly but not free ship back, not worth to ship back. Could be their practice? Anyways ordered another one from Amazon that is sold by Amazon, this on came in Tripp Lite bag and fully assembled. Tested and works, loving this product again.

I'm not sure what null modem spec these adapters are using, but the pinout does not match any known configuration I can find. Each is wired differently and neither one works. I should be able to repin these, but they certainly are not null modem.

seems to work for my use. I use this at work to connect a laptop to a charger's null modem port from a distance of 30ft away. The program we use is buggy, but I have faith in these adapters.
