I got this kit to help restore a French horn that I saved from the junk yard; she has a lot of life left to live, but does need some work. The snake fits well and I have no complaints. The valve brush worked really well in the rotor casings (after taking the rotors out), but the mouthpiece brush is a bit too big. I'm thinking that it would work great for a trombone mouthpiece but is just too big for a horn (and probably trumpet) mouthpiece. I go through oil pretty quickly (a few drops in the leadpipe after swabbing it out after playing), so I do not expect this to last very long; with this, it does seem to work pretty well! The cleaning cloth works pretty well; it is nothing to write home about, but does the job fine.

This is a good maintenance kit at a lower price than the local music shop. The one "weak" spot is the brushes, which I find to be a bit too big & soft--I personally prefer a smaller diameter brush that's a bit stiffer. The mouthpiece brush, especially, is huge! It fits a tuba mouthpiece well, a trombone mouthpiece ok, and barely makes it into my trumpet mouthpiece. I actually plan to add this kit to one of our school euphoniums rather than a trumpet.The oil seems to have good lubricity, though I'd like a bigger bottle.The best part is the tuning slide grease. Since I discovered gel tuning slide grease a few years ago, that's almost all I use. The gel is great because you don't have to get it on your hands and then wipe it off, so it's easier to use any time you need to smooth things out. In fact, it's almost too smooth for a well-worn main tuning slide on my trumpet I use at school--when the trumpet is vertical on my trumpet stand, the slide starts to slowly come out just from gravity. I do use a thinner tuning slide oil for the 3rd valve slide to let that be even faster, but this can work if the slide is loose enough.
