1 out of 15 homes in Canada has unsafe levels of radon. The annual known death rate in Canada from exposure to radon induced lung cancer is 3200.That's higher than car accidents, carbon monoxide, and house fires combined. This detector uses a semiconductor sensor with a vented design for faster, more accurate radon readings. It shows initial results after 6 hours, then updates every 30 minutes. This has both audible and visual alarms, with customizable alert thresholds. It supports long term monitoring with storage for up to 504 days of data, saved every 6 hours. The 2.0 inch color screen makes settings easy to adjust and results easy to read. This runs up to 45 days in ECO mode and charges in 3.5 hours via USB C.If you don't know, then you're at risk. Possibly huge risk. This monitor is good just to know, great for peace of mind, and it's an actual lifesaver if it goes off.

I have no way of knowing if the measurment on this device is accurate or not. It is fairly easy to set up and even though I left it packaged for several weeks, when I finally opened it up it still had a charge. The instructions are very basic and I think I understand what I need to know to use it. It does not give an automatic reading, but has to run for 6 hours before you can see what the measurement of the radon level is. Ours rated at 1.7, which is less than the recommended 4, so good. When we moved to this house, 3 years ago, the radon was high and the previous owner was actually dying of cancer. We immediately installed a radon mitigation system which pumps it out at the roof. The system shows that it is still working, so I expect that the radon level should be satisfactory and this just gives us more peace of mind for that. It is certainly a much more reasonable option than the one time use kits or calling back the guy who installed the system. I'd be curious to take it to my aunt's house, which does not have a radon mitigation system and, as far as I know, has never been tested for radon. I would need her permission first, though. If I do get a chance to run that test, I'll update my review. I guess my only concern would be that this is just a device that automatically gives a neutral reading and doesn't really measure anything, but I have no way of knowing that without taking it somewhere else to see if it measures a different amount.

I'm new to the radon detection game. In my initial research, I've found out that radon is an invisible, odorless gas that is given off by uranium decay, and it is present all around us worldwide. It can cause lung cancer among non-smokers, and it could affect the value of your home if high levels of it are detected indoors (> 4 pCi/L; average in the U.S. is 1.3 pCi/L). Units of measure are picocuries per liter (pCi/L), commonly used in the U.S., and becquerels per cubic meter (Bq/m³), used everywhere else in the world. The conversion rate is 1 pCi/L = 37 Bq/m³.About the size and shape of a hockey puck, it is rechargeable via a Type-C port, and the battery lasts a long time (about 45 days). Since it doesn't operate from household current, it can be placed just about anywhere. It has a bright legible display with a very useful linear gauge showing where on the danger continuum its radon reading lies. Thus if the gauge's little arrow is in the orange or red zone, your radon levels are too high. Not having access to a professional radon detection device, I can't determine its accuracy, although I can determine whether or nor it's in the ballpark. I have an old military compass that has radium markings. As the half-life of radium is 1,600 years, and my compass was made in the early 1950s, it's still a good source of radon. Sure enough, when I put this detector near the compass, its radon reading shot up. So I know at least that this detector works.

Review of CHNADKS Portable Radon DetectorRadon is an odorless invisible gas. Since the concentration inside the house fluctuates depending on season, weather, ventilation and pressure, readings must be averaged over 1 to 3 months. This detector does this average automatically so you can track the evolution on a day to day basis as well as the trend over a long period of time. This might help to narrow the causes for higher concentrations. Indoor concentration might be significantly different between two dwellings. Therefore, results obtained from a neighboring house is not a reliable indication. That's another advantage of this device: portability. You can share it with other people and test more than one location. The most important aspect I wanted to confirm is the accuracy of the detector. It is pretty hard to do since laboratory analysis of disposable devices requires 3 months of measurement. However, I can confidently say that the measurement I get with the CHNADKS Portable Radon Detector are in the same ballpark as the latest long term analysis I got done. Also, the concentration drops as expected when I ventilate. The UI is well made and easy to navigate. It is possible to adjust the alarm threshold or deactivate the audible alarm. Here in Canada, our limits are given in Bq/m³ and the software allows to switch between pCi/L and Bq/m³, which is very handy. In my opinion, this detector is a good investment for both our health as well as our house value.

You learn something new every day and I am so glad to have come across this unit to review. I did not know, nor was I aware of how harmful radon was to humans and how much radon we are actually exposed to throughout the UK. There is an actual website showing what areas are potentially at risk and thus device is a life saver to say the least. Thankfully where I am located, I'm not at risk and this has verified it, but the fact I can take this with me when going on trips is a nice to have to safeguard myself and my family.Being rechargeable is a major plus point as you don't need to worry about carrying batteries. The unit is easy to operate and stores data so you can go back and do some analysis should you wish, but a must if you are living in exposed areas. It's worth being in the know and doing some research with this radon detector to keep on top.

I have only recently become aware of the risks associated with Radon gas. The facts that it is the second largest cause of lung cancer in the UK after smoking, and that it is estimated to cause 1100 deaths in the UK each year are sobering. I decided it was time to check the Radon levels in my house. This monitor comes in a striking orange and black unsealed cardboard box which is very sturdy. It has an inner foam former to hold the monitor and a charging lead. The monitor has a plastic film protector over the top surface to protect the screen in transit. Included in the box is an instruction manual with glossy stapled paper in English only. The manual is easy to understand. The USB A to USB C charging lead is 0.5m long and of average quality with plastic cable cover and plug casings. The monitor is compact and has a good quality look and feel. The main case has an aluminium look, the top is glossy black plastic, clear over the screen. The operating buttons are rubberised with a positive click. The bottom is rubberised with four integral rubber feet to prevent it slipping on smooth surfaces.Although the screen is relatively small, it has a high resolution, so is able to display a lot of information. There is a green led which comes on when its charging and goes off when fully charged, even when the display is off.Using this monitor, the radon level in my house after 12 hours was 38 Bq/m3. The safe target is Overall, this is a well made and easy to use monitor, and well worth it for the peace of mind.Highly recommended.
