I bought this cable to connect solar assistant to my Sol-Ark 12K inverter. It works perfectly. The USB to RS485 allows me to connect the Solar Assistant raspberry pi to the inverter using the "battery" comm port on the inverter. Using a RS485 splitter, you can connect both the Solar Assistant and the battery string into this same comm port. The inverter talks to the battery using the CAN interface on a different set of pins than the inverter uses to talk to solar assistant using RS485.

I tried this with both My Sol-Ark inverter and my EG4 batteries. It doesn’t work with either. The original cable with my batteries does work with both. I’ll be shopping for another brand or solution since I need a second cable.
