Folks, this is a really simple and ingenious method of storing your kayaks. You can also store other items if you wish. This is a simple pulley hoist system. I used 2x4 inch and placed this on the plastered ceiling in my garage. I did this because I did not want to break any plasterboard and my ceiling joists run the opposite way.It is not difficult to install. It works very well. I now have room and can use the floor space below the kayak.Good product.

I like the hoist. For me it was to save space in the garage for my second kayak. It's important to note the direction of your studs before starting your install, as you may need to install a board across multiple studs if they run perpendicular to the way you want to hang something. I attached the boards with lag bolts, and in turn attached the hoist hardware to the boards I installed with the provided lag bolts.Another tip, measure the length of your item you're going to hang, as I placed my hardware a bit too close together. This becomes an issue as you reach the top, as the ropes splay apart and can make it difficult to release the rope. It still functions fine, I just have to put more effort forth for the first 20 percent of lowering before the hoist will drop as designed. It's sturdy, and it takes little effort to lift and tie it off. There is plenty of extra rope provided for those that have taller ceilings.

It's a little tricky to get the ropes right but my pictures should help. Hardware and ropes were ok but you will probably have to change things a little to get everything right for your garage or carport. There are two pulleys but they do not help as far a reducing the weight of your kayak. It's sort of one to one. Takes some strength to lift it. I didn't realize that there are TWO hangers in this box so if you don't need two don't order. This works ok and the price right so i give it a thumbs up.

This is a great and sturdy kit for getting a kayak out of the way. My garage ceiling is 10 feet and I suspect with the amount of rope provided, this could go as high as 20 feet. The quality of the rope is very good relative to the price. The locking mechanism took some practice and the key is to install the rope cleat so the rope is at least at a 45 degree angle to the locking. While the install is pretty straightforward, it did take me about an hour to fully install. This is more a reflection of the product sturdiness than any difficulties with the install, although the instructions could be better. If you just look at the graphics, you should be able to easily figure out how to install properly.

This product has horrible anchors. It dropped by 5000$ kayak which is now broken beyond repair.I was very careful not to exceed the maximum rating. However, in order to disengage the self locking mechanism, you need to pull fairly hard on the rope. This is when the whole thing ripped right off the ceiling and the kayak came crashing down, hitting me on the way down, and then shattered on the ground. If you will use this product, DO NOT use the provided method, figure something out so it is stronger. (Screwing the provided 2 screws directly into the studs won't be enough eithe, as you really need to pull hard in order to disengage the, rather cheap, mechanism which tend to bite way harder than it should. ... and I say that as a climber.)

Installing this system perpendicular to ceiling joists is not recommended and does require some mounting modifications (drilling some additional screw holes in the steel mounting brackets... the steel is fairly good so a cobalt drill bit was required). Once mounted this easily hoists my 17' 70lb canoe safely up to my garage ceiling. It's super easy to get down with two people (one person per rope on either side of the boat since this is actually 2 kits), but a bit more fussy with one person.

Very easy to install, one set is holding a kayak, the other a paddle board. It gets them out of the way.

If you are looking for a overhead solution for storing your kayaks indoors this is a great solution. The good product quality, simple to install. Depending how you want to store the kayaks and the direction that the ceiling Joists are running you might need to put a 2x4 cleat to span the joists (See picture). The kits come with hollow wall anchors, but I would be cautious using these with something as heavy as a kayak (better to over engineer than under). The straps in my opinion should be shorter or the manufacturer needs to make the straps adjustable by adding additional pockets. I could easily get another foot high wit a 3 ft strap, which I may buy later. Plan on a long afternoon for the installation. Maybe I am slow but there isn’t anyway I could do this a a couple of hours. I also used heavier and longer lag screws to anchor to the ceiling. (1/4 x 3 1/2 for the cleat anchors and 1/4 x 1 1/4 for attaching the pulley frames). As others have mentioned, the rope is “adequate”, but I decided to go heavier and longer rope.Overall, I am really happy with this solution, saves space and super convenient to take down and put back up.

Installation was really good and the quality of the product for the money exceptional. I'm using it to store 2 kayaks in the garage. I fastened the pulley units directly to the wooden trusses using the supplied lag screws. I would not recommend using the supplied wall anchors if you have a drywall ceiling. I did find the straps are too long with only two hanging loops. I was able to knot the straps to shorten them.

My situation was unique, my ceiling is too low therefore had to dismantle the pulley from the mounting blocks to allow me to lift the two kayaks closer to the ceiling allowing me to walk under them without hitting my head.Removing the pulleys does not alter the method the unit operates it just allowed me more headroom. To lift is easy as well as the lowering. Will be buying more to set up my enclosed trailer.

One reviewer put this up in 30 minutes: either they worked for the manufacturer, had a poor sense of time, or got extremely lucky. Budget 2-3 hours minimum. The printed directions are diagrams only, so look at the pictures on Amazon to get an idea of what you are trying to do. Be prepared to put up some blocking if your ceiling joists run the wrong way or don't match up with where you need to mount your hoist. The mounting brackets have round holes on one side and square on the other so they have to match the pulley brackets; pay attention to which way the pulleys will mount before you install the ceiling brackets so you get it right. The pictures in the directions make it look like you will have a single rope to pull but you will have a loop, pulling on one or other side of the loop to lower the front or back pulley. The instructions recommend the pulleys be 90cm(3ft) apart, which is too close for a canoe or kayak or long ladder, but the cord was just long enough for hanging my canoe with the brackets 6ft apart. The pulleys and hangers add almost a foot from the ceiling, make sure you budget for this if you have a low ceiling. All in all this hoist functioned well for my 50 pound canoe. It took over 3 hours to install but I had to add blocking because the joists ran perpendicular to the mounting brackets. It would be difficult to lift a 125 pound canoe with this thin cord and single pulley system , but I don't think it would break. If you have more than 50-60 pounds consider a truly heavy duty hoist.
