This seems to be the kitchen sink version of an rs-485 to network gateway. Even as an electronics, programming, and network expert I spent hours getting this to connect to and pass messages from a temp/humidity sensor to a python program on the same network. It appears to support some relatively complex use cases such as auto modbus polling and mqtt, or acting as either a client or a server, ap or station, etc, but I had to wade through the manual, wiki, and a few tutorials before I found a setup that gave me what I needed.Meanwhile it took me les than an hour to do the same with an off the shelf can transceiver and a pi pico. This is powerful and versatile, and I’m sure that with tech support or a forum I could do quite a bit with it, but I’m afraid I’m probably not going to use it. With nearly a dozen long configuration pages in the web interface and cryptic manual I’m just not interested in long term maintenance, having to look up everything every time I need to adjust it due to a new WiFi network name or modbus parameter change.

As long as you know what you’re doing, this will get it done. No issues as of yet. Seems quality.

I've dreamed of a magic box I can plug in that gateways a serial port to TCP/IP ports or an MQTT server for a while now. Unfortunately, this thing isn't it: it's way too complex to set up and use, and I never successfully got it working for my application. It's a shame because the hardware is actually really nice - it's a well packaged box with convenient connectors, an external Wi-Fi antenna, clear labeling, and useful mounting points. Where this falls down is the software - configuration requires you to connect to its captive portal and know that it defaults to a random IP address of 10.10.100.254, and then it gets more confusing from there. There are a dizzying array of options, most of them unexplained and many not behaving as expected - it certainly seems like a module that should be able to do Everything, but the complexity is overwhelming. If you do decide to give this a try, you'll want to search for:Waveshare "RS232/485 TO WIFI POE ETH (B)" wikion your favorite search engine. This should reveal a detailed information page; then, scroll down to Document and click the User Manual link. If you can wade through all the details about AT+ commands and if your scenario is really simple, you might be able to make this work - but time is money, and this device requires a lot of time even if it's relatively affordable in price.

Inexpensive but be ready for a challenge figuring out how to get it to work. Documentation is lacking if you can find it on the internet. A lot of experimenting and still not 100% correct setup. Has Mqtt and HTTPD put options. Could not find a working driver for virtual comport operation at least for Win10.Price is on target for what you get.Good news is that I haven’t found it trying to “phone home” to China through my firewall so it doesn’t appear to be a malicious Chinese product.

Tried every setting to get the LAN to send over WIFI, I want remote access to a PLC which talks to the VFD and HMI over Ethernet. Can connect to the device over WiFi and adjust settings but the LAN port never became active. JUNK!( Although it may work with serial/modbus to LAN/wifi, did not try because it is not what i am looking for)
