another reviewer mentioned the detection output voltage (ie, signal) is 5 V -- it's not!there's an on-board regulator which converts the 5-12V supply voltage to 3.3 V which is what powers the on-board circuitry as well as the output

I have used these IR motion detector units in several projects and they are both fun as projects, even for beginners, and as part of larger projects. They have a 5V output signal voltage and work great with microcontrollers and microprocessors. Add a current limiting resistor and an LED to get a visual indication of operation.They only run on 5V, so if you want to use 3.7V Li-ion rechargeable batteries you need a boost converter. A good one on Amazon is the following:Comidox 1.5V 1.8V 2.5V 3V 3.3V 3.7V 4.2V to 5V DC-DC Step Up Power Module Voltage Boost Converter Board 0.9-5V to 5V 5PCSThese cost from $1 to $1.60 each, depending on quantity bought at the same time. They are tiny, easy to use, use very little power themselves, and work great.

I almost didn't get these because of the reviews saying there would be duds. I used them for an art project where I needed 8 sensors and I felt like getting 10 would allow room for failures. I didn't have trouble with a single one and in general they worked better than I expected. They can be a little sluggish to pick things up and I wish I had more control over how long they triggered for, but overall I was happy with these.

Although I only required four sensors, I purchased ten. I worked on the assumption that some of the units would be faulty..... unfortunately, this was the case! That said the price reflected the standard.On two of the units, the potentiometers appeared to have no adjustment and activated immediately after the 60 second setup period. One one of the working units, the pins were bent back at approximately a 45 degree angle.I decided not to return the sensors as it was simply too much hassle!

I get around 15 feet at full sensitivity. Good off-axis detection as well. Great for small indoor microcontroller projects. This unit is well-described on the Internet.

Good PIR sensors at a reasonable price. They also have a place solder in a light sensing resistors so you can set them up to sense at night but not during the day.
