I needed a yarn winder for bigger skeins and bulkier yarn. This one does not cut it. The power is terrible. And every time I wind it, it ends up winding under the plate. Definitely returning and would not recommend.

This winder is one of the better ones I've used. My advice is read the instructions. I skimmed over them ( so my fault) and got frustrated initially. Once I figured out the tension ( and re-read the instructions), it worked well. I loved the fact I could wind the thicker yarns, which helped save some space. The only downside is if the winder encounters a small amount of resistance it stops, but that's easily fixed and I've been able to do five large skeins already and the machine is still working well. I would definitely buy it again.

I had a problem with the yarn popping out of the tension guides. The guides are just slots where you run the yarn through, but are not closed. It was very annoying as I had to continually stop the yarn winder to put the yarn back in. Otherwise this is a solid unit capable of winding most yarns.

I have used this thing like crazy. Easy to assemble and very stable. Practical. The size is good for amigurumi cakes or small projects. As far as making a larger skein into a cake you would need a larger yarn spinner. I love it
