I've owned multiple stud finders throughout the years, ranging from a cheap Craftsman I picked up for $15, to a much pricier Franklin Sensors brand...and for 90% of my stud finding needs I still find myself reaching for these little guys. They are almost laughably simple...its a set of magnets in a plastic housing, but if there is a screw in your drywall, chances are very high that it is attached to a stud. It takes no skill, finesse or thought to use these, just run them around your wall for a few seconds and when they magnetize, you've got your stud. I got this 2 pack to replace the original Stud Buddy I have used for years and they are identical minus the name brand on the product. It takes the guesswork out of trying to interpret the random beeping/lights of battery power stud finders, and I've never gotten a false positive with one of these little magnets. Every home owner needs one!

While this won't fully replace a powered stud finder, it is still a very handy addition to your tool box. Since they stick to the wall, they are great for figuring out mounting placement of wall mounted items without having to mark the studs by drawing on the wall.

I've used these magnetic stud finders several times so far while hanging wall art and they work perfectly. They are VERY strong and I store them on my fridge when not in use - they snap onto anything magnetic very easily and stay in place. Simple and effective. I'd absolutely recommend these as a low tech tool while doing renovations or just basic house maintenance.

These stud finders work by attaching to the nail heads holding up the drywall (presumably driven into the mostly center of the stud) and then dangling straight down providing a idea as to where the stud is lined up in the wall. The magnets in these are VERY strong and do their job well, making it easy to align with the stud through the sheetrock. I would still use an electronic stud finder to find the outer edges of the stud if centerline is essential, just in case the nails are offcenter. Overall, these perform a lot better than I expected for an analog detector.

I've always used the sensor stud finders and I've had them give me inaccurate readings. Wasn't able to hang my 85" TV because I didn't trust the readings.I was hoping this would be more accurate and I can finally hang my TV. It did not detect any nails in my studs at all. It would detect metal on the edge of the walls, so I know the magnets are strong - but no nails in the studs in my walls.I admit, I'm no handyperson and I had to look up videos on how to use these. Just disappointed they didn't work for me. Maybe my walls weren't secured with nails?...

Is this the most helpful stud finder method in the world, no probably not. But they do detect the stud and if you're just trying to hang something on a wall that doesn't have much exciting going on light electrical wires, then I think that this works great and the 2 pack is really nice for making sure that the studs are actually 16 on center. The magnets stick really well, you just have to "scan" the wall slowly and from a couple of different heights.

These magnetic stud finders work great at finding drywall nails/screws. If you have an electronic stud finder, these will work on walls that are too thick for the electronic finder to penetrate. However, these will not necessarily show the exact center or width of the stud. With regards to the center of a stud, these magnetic finders are only as good as the person who put the drywall up. If the builder missed the stud, the magnets won't know it. But...it's still better than the knock test. Each finder is 5.5" long by about 7/8" wide, and has two magnets, each about 1/3 the way from the ends. The magnets are strong and the finders will hang in place on the wall once magnetized to a nail/screw.My only concern with these is that the hard plastic can leave very light "rub" marks on the wall surface. I happened to have some cloth tape and used that to cover the bottom sides. Painter's tape or duct tape would also work to that end.For the price, I'm glad to have these in my arsenal!
