I love this chisel, it holds an edge like none I have used before! The handle is great for giving me control (this may just be my hand size, but it is great) I plan on working with some harder wood this summer and excited to see how it works on that. Great tool!

Nice Chisel worked well for me the only down side was the ring at the top it flew right off on the first use I replaced it with a tighter fit ring and made it thicker, now this chisel works great, nice and heavy, heald a good edge thurought our timber frame building.

I had never used a framing chisel...or had even seen one up close. Wow! It is huge and heavy. It's like my standard chisel and my jointer plane had a love child. This chisel is useful for applications where nothing else will quite fit. It works as a chisel. But with its great length it is much easier to hold steady than a standard chisel. You can nearly plane with it.An added touch....when my chisel arrived it had obviously been hand honed. Who still does that!

I've never been disappointed with a Sorby tool and this 2" framing chisel has proven its value, both in workmanship and price over and over again. If you have a use for this type of too, this is the one to get.

When I received it, the chisel has some very minor nicks on the corners of the cutting edge. Nothing 10 minutes on the stones couldn't fix. Went through 220-1000-4000-8000. Now it's better than shaving sharp. Did the job no problem. I now have the 3 3/8" slick and the 1 1/2" chisel on order too.

This is a big framing chisel and a little heavy. I also have 1 1/2". I find I get better results from the 1 1/2" as its easier to control. Quality of these sorby chisels are excellent. They will keep and edge, and last a lifetime. They arrive very sharp with flat backs, which means not a lot of time required to optimize the chisel for heavy wood working.

I've never paid eighty-five bucks for a chisel before, but this one is worth every penny and more. For several years now, the door to our "back porch" has never closed completely. That add-on to the off grid home I built in 2010 does not access the main building, simply housing the propane fueled hot water heater and corner shelves full of tools and building supplies, but my wife finally gave me "the look". It was time to fix it.The problem was caused by a bit of settling after the structure was built, resulting in a slightly crooked doorframe that resulted in the door jamming against the upper latch-side corner of the doorway. Normally, I would have simply shaved the door down a bit, but this particular door is metal clad. That meant shaving or planing down the wooden frame instead...but I did not own a tool capable of working an inside corner like that. Once it arrived from Amazon, the hefty two inch wide Robert Sorby timber framing chisel did the job easily. Unlike using a plane, the blade worked most precisely (for me, anyway) with the beveled side down. That provided complete control, easily taking either a healthy bite or no more than a coat of paint. It's designed to push like a wood plane, not hammer like a wood chisel, though a mallet can be used if necessary. Two hands were required to provide absolute control, but I did not need to use a mallet even when slicing through a knot. Before long, the job was done smoothly and the door closed as it should. The only remaining task is to repaint the surface. This was done right out of the box, no "tuning" of the blade. It would take a better man than me to improve on the original edge.I can think of only one drawback to this tool: Now I'm craving the entire Robert Sorby set, ranging from one inch to three and three eighths inches in width, and the budget won't stand for it just yet.
