I've wanted to have a set of Mortising Chisel bits ever since I saw them being used by craftsmen on a very popular home improvement and remodeling TV show. I wouldn't call myself an avid carpenter, but I have been known to make furniture pieces here and there over a span of many years. When I saw this 4 PCS Square Hole Drill Bits set FROM Homaisson on Amazon recently, I was reminded of my interest in these bits and ordered the set right away.As it turned out, I ordered the set too quickly - I should have informed myself about the product a bit better. I don't have a mortising machine, and I intended to use these bits on the floor-standing drill press that I have in my home workshop. Had I read the product ad for these bits more carefully, I would have probably noticed the note that stated: "Please note that if using a drill press, a mortising attachment is required but not included.". OK, so I have these bits now, but it seems I am only 1/2 way to the goal of being able to use them.I am certainly not blaming the product nor manufacturer for my inattention. In fact, as I looked the bits over I noted that they seem to be very well made, with very sharp cutting edges on the drill (more like auger) bits and square chisels on each size. I also noted that the center bits are straight and true and rotate cleanly within the chisel. I am confident that these bits will do a great job for me once I get the mortising attachment that I need. I'm really looking forward to being able to use them!

The bits are poorly made, with visible roughness to the naked eye. The holes they drill lack precision, and the steel is quite soft, showing signs of wear after just a few tests on hardwood. This set isn't suitable for projects that require decent quality or accuracy.
