Like it for my tomato pots and cucumber pots

Upon opening the box, I was surprised by the size. My hands are small so from the tip of my middle finger to the edge of my palm where it meets my wrist, the stakes are a pretty long length. The weight of it threw me off a bit, it felt weak and thin. I’m use to the thickness of Terra cotta pots for my plants, that was my mental comparison. The directions are pretty simple, fill a water bottle, I believe the preference are wine bottles, with their long necks and all, and then put the stake on top of the bottle like your closing it off and then flip and tip the whole thing into the pot. I’d recommend making sure it’s set deep into the pot at least close and deep enough into the pot up to the open neck of the stake because with gravity and all the bottle could eventually tip the whole stake and bottle over the edge, fall over and break both stake and bottle. For functionally wise, it works, the whole watering system. But honestly it’s also a slow process unless you have time to watch your plant pot soak up water.Installation wise, the directions are easy and direct but there is one flaw and that is when you go to push the stake into the pot, with the water bottle on top, into the plant pot, you CANNOT, I mean DO NOT, press the stake down from the bottle end. The stake will crack on all sides and break. Unfortunately I lost a stake that way. It’s sad. Now I only have 9 stakes left. I’m not sure if there was a warning section in the directions, I sure didn’t see it, but fair warning from me.Out of curiosity, I did try an open bottom water bottle because I have plenty in my garden as funnels. I tried tipping that onto the stake and then adding water, not so great, because, one, the water bottles’s neck was too short so it couldn’t sit well on the stake without falling off so easily. Even if you held the bottle in place on the stake with one hand, the results aren’t good because .. two, even if you hold the water bottle, when you go to fill the open bottom with your other hand, with the rules of science, the water gushed out of the stake where the bottle meets the stake. No bueno. Sorry. Tried it, it’s a no go.Over all this is a tested watering system and it works, but unfortunately it does NOT work for pots that are smaller than the stake, it wine bottle itself is too heavy even if the stake is lightweight. Now, you can always use the stake alone and it fill it up with water instead of using a bottle. I don’t think there’s any “buts” about it. It can work.

Very happy for the ones that did not crack .. 2 out of 10 cracked once the bottle was placed inside it .. wish they where a little thicker

I love ollas, and these work on the same principle - burying a piece of terra-cotta in the soil to slowly wick moisture to the plants, saving water without extra effort put into complicated drip irrigation systems. These fit a regular-size plastic bottle, long-necked glass bottle, or gallon jug, so they're very versatile in how much water they can hold. The long-necked bottles work best for these particular watering spikes. They'll work great in large pots, raised beds, or any mounded garden such as a 3 Sisters-type setup.

Even though I broke the first one not following instructions and tried to jam it in. Read the instructions, dug a small hole and the rest is history. Allows your plants to drink when they want to. A real time and vacation worry saver. So my plants partake from wine and Scotch bottles depending on the size of the bag, pot, or plant size.

These clay watering spikes are perfect for newbie gardeners. I considered getting larger ollas, but for the price of 4, I would only get 1. These definitely are a lot more affordable. So far, these have been working perfectly for my raised garden beds (pic attached) and especially my containerized raised garden bed. I've noticed that the herbs closest to the spikes are more robust and my tomatoes are really happy.Im sure during summer I will need to fill these up daily or add a water bottle in the opening, for now, it is rainy season and I can leave them open. Moreover, I live in the Gulfcoast, skeeter country, but the ground absorbs the water from the clay pots so I doubt the skeetrs can deposit viable eggs. If I see an issue, I'll just cap them off with a cork or bottle cap. These Look good and sturdy, well made. I love that I can move the spikes around to support whatever plant I want to care for.
