We have three of these and love them for our remote, gardening out at our property.

This solar powered self watering system was intended for indoor use. But we needed some outdoor plants to be watered without us remembering to do it in the summer heat. We covered the electronic panel with a plastic tub and mounted the solar panel where it got light but wouldn't get crushed by anything. It worked great for the end of summer and fall. We dismantled for winter but plan to use it again in spring.

The barbs on the pump are susceptible to breaking if you don't leave them permanently attached (i.e. if you need to disconnect/reconnect the lines). Once they break, you'll have a very hard time repairing it - I tried 3D printing new barbs and even dremeling a 1/4" barb connector to be flush with it and epoxying those, but if you break the Inlet side, and there's any air hole, the pump will struggle to get suction, rendering it useless. We had to buy a 2nd pump because of this, and for that one, I cut ~6" of 1/4" tubing and attached barb connectors to those. These will stay permanently attached to the pump and I'll just disconnect the actual irrigation lines from these - they're much, much less likely to break, and even if they do, I can replace the 1/4" barb connector easily.Siphoning is a problem also if your plants aren't at the same vertical height as the pump and water source - you'll need to add an air break on the output side - a length of hose with holes in it will do, but it'll leak from there and reduce your overall pressure, but this is better than it draining your water source (a rain barrel in our case) and flooding your plants.Otherwise, it's decent for what you pay for, and integrates well with the RainPoint Home app (if you have other RainPoint devices, like a rain sensor or soil sensor, you can create rules to control this pump, like water more if it's hot or pause if it's raining).

This solar pump works very well and attached with soil sensors which allows you to water when needed. System is very thought out. The only draw back I have found is that the pumps need to put more volume and our pressure. This seems to be only a practical small scale drip solution. I have tried to put small sprinklers, jets, and mist nozzles but there is not enough pressure. If Baldor upped the pumps this would be a perfect system in a niche that really only has one competitor which offers a bigger solar pump but less simplicity and integration.

Doesn’t hold sunlight enough to work

The hardest part of this contraption is finding a big enough bucket and where you want to set it.Once you locate your reservoir or holding tank and run all your lines and download the app it’s simple! Make sure the solar panel can get good sunlight. There are so many options and functions on the app that make it easy to water either manually or on a schedule. We are using our system indoors. I know… shock! But, we have tropical plants that need watered while we’re on vacation and we don’t want to lose them. Now, we just ask our house sitter to fill the reservoir when she comes to check on the house. That’s easier for her than traipsing a watering can all through the house and we know that our plants won’t be over or under watered.I think with additional hose and drip emitters, and a large enough reservoir, you could really stretch this system out.An additional feature that I think is cool, but won’t work inside, is the rain delay function. If using this outside, but having a rainy spell, delay your watering so you aren’t overwatering. Genius! And while you’re at it - use a rain barrel as your reservoir so you get mother nature’s water and that won’t cost you a dime either!

Goal is to place in a grow tent which will hopefully keep the battery charged vs. plugged in or battery charge options, and I also the Rainpoint soil sensor to control the amount water the plant soil has, it also pairs with the hub and collects near real-time on watering state. About to place in my tent, I’ll add more to the review once I put into use. I had it all up and running and configured in 15 minutes. Once I do more testing I will update my review, so far Great Product at a Great Price. Easy Setup.

This is a RainPoint system. I am very familiar with RainPoint and have one of their larger automated watering systems. But I always dreamed of having a solar powered watering system. No more messing with batteries or having it fail on me.They say this system is only good for up to 10 plants but I am going to extend it with more tubing and drip systems I already have on hand. Just be sure that the main unit is up higher than the plants and it will run well enough down hill. This conveniently hangs on the edge of a bucket or other water container. I am going to be using a much larger tank later so I can let this run for weeks at a time as needed.Having a system that you can program and then forget about it, knowing your plants will be watered as needed is a huge game changer. Solar power is always a bonus.
