I used to have a two-tine core aerator with flat tips. The clay-rich soil simply plugged up the tines and made them impossible to even dent the ground. So I always used a shovel to aerate until I found this tool. The pointy tips and the side ejection make clay-rich soil a piece of cake and are easy to clean out after use. Two bars running parallel from the handle to the footplate not only makes it easy to step/stomp on the footplate but also give my leg and knee the space to really lean in and put down some weight when the soil is very compacted. The build is sturdy enough that when I find larger rocks underground, I can leverage this tool like a shovel to get rocks out of the ground.

This 3 prong aerater is sturdy and you can buy replacement core bits if you need to. In a sandy loam soil this would be perfect. I have clay. Clay is no fun. But I found it works a lot easier after a rain or good soaking from a hose. Core plugs self eject well. Normally, you leave the plugs laying on top of the grass. I picked up mine and worked a home made composted horse manure and finely shredded leaves mulch into the holes and the grass seems to like it a lot.

This aerator works very well. We have a 1/3rd acre and it’s a workout, but it will pull out nice sized plugs. If you have a smaller yard, this is perfect. If your ground is very hard or compacted, pre water or use this after a long rain, otherwise you may be a little sore the next day. The spikes loosened the first time I used it, but after the second time, they didn’t budge. You could use some blue loctite. Cleaning is breeze and not once has it clogged.

Glad we listened to the other reviewer and bought it! We were nervous with so little reviews as well, but it’s great. Does an awesome job, easy to use and sturdy.

I was sceptical because there weren't many reviews and the ones that were there all came on the same day which was a little suspect. Anyway, I just did about 1/4 an acre and I didn't clog once, which seems to be an issue with other models. Also, the grip is nicely cushioned and I never hit my knee once because this design doesn't have one bar in the middle. I am 6'5" and didn't have an issue with the height. The blades are longer than other models, which I like a lot and they come with blade caps for storing without scratching things. The frame itself is very sturdy and nicely soldered. My only issue was that the screws that connect the blades to the frame come loose quite often which doesn't impact its use, but does add a little rattle noise. I kept the hex wrench in my pocket and tightened it when I needed to. I will probably look for a Magyver-type solution to keep it tighter.

Update:After several uses of 5-10 minutes each, the tines get loose during every use. At first, we just tried tightening the screws, but that did not resolve the problem. We added lock washers and this has fully fixed that issue. I still believe this is a good quality aerator, but at this price washers should have been included. I have to remove a star for that manufacturer design or quality control error.I recently ordered the manual aerator, and it has exceeded my expectations. Here are some key points that highlight my positive experience with this product:• Quality Build: The construction quality is excellent, promising durability and long-term use. The aerator has very sturdy tubing and a solid foot plate that are built to last.• Three Prongs for Efficiency: The three-prong design makes the task quicker and more effective.• Deep Aeration: This aerator goes deeper than other devices, ensuring thorough soil aeration.• Smooth Prongs/pluggers: The aerator glides through clay soil with remarkable ease, but you will be putting in some serious elbow grease if you try a large area!• Efficient Plug Ejection: It ejects plugs out the front, so there’s no need to periodically stop to clean out the device. One less reason to pause your workout!• Cushioned handles add comfort.• Size of plugs is larger than my older, two-pronged aerator. In conclusion, my experience with the manual aerator has been excellent. Its sturdy build and efficient design have made aerating my lawn more palatable. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a reliable and effective manual aerator.

I'm actually surprised how well this works. Unfortunately I've used a bunch of different aerators because most of them are garbage. I was about to bite the bullet and buy the expensive green one, but I really like the design of this one so I decided to give it a shot even though there are only a couple reviews on it. This is comfortable to use, doesn't clog, is easy to put together, and is easy to clean. Plus it's like $40 cheaper than the expensive green one. If you're looking to manually aerate your lawn I highly recommend this product.
