This version of the innovative side-cutting can opener is a major improvement over the OXO original version, which many couldn't figure out how to use without a tutorial. This one is much simpler to use than the OXO unit, and it works more like an old-fashioned can opener. The new version also appears to have superior build quality and turns more easily than the OXO version, which became dull rather quickly and we had to go around the can two or three times before the lid would come off. We haven't owned this new version long enough to know if we will have the same problem with dull cutting blades, but it cost less than half as much as the OXO version.

Had an OxO brand opener like this one for several years. This one works well. Well built with a good feel in the hand. Older, weaker hands may have a problem turning the opener.Much better than the can opener that leaves a sharp edge.

What's not to like. Rickuncl"s Improvement Safety Can Opener that is easy and comfortable to use. If the can has a seam this puppy will open it without leaving any sharp edges and you can replace the lid if you don't use the whole can. Has the can got a pull tab ? No problem; this will open it and again, no sharp edges. Rinse this opener under the faucet if you want, but no need to since it never touches the content of the can. So what? Take a close look at the 2 wheels on your current can opener; they are covered in dark gunk making them petri dishes. Yuck. It's cheap, effective, comfortable, and easy to use for rickety old folks like me. My wife had me order 6 more to give as gifts.

One of the worst things about standard manual can openers is the grip strength required to join the two handles around the edge of the can, and THEN to turn the crank. When I was young and wanted to prove my girly strength, I hated it then, but I'm an old fart now and it stinking hurts. This can opener uses different system that is far simpler and much, much easier on the hands. It's the best I've ever had, bar none. No heavy grip required, it cuts quickly and leaves absolutely no jagged edges to cut yourself on, either on the can or the lid. Sleek design and takes up much less drawer space than the standard model. So oId farts like me can put off buying one of those noisy, power sucking electric can openers.

Do NOT waste your hard earned money!!! I bought a similar opener from a different company that didn't do the job anymore after 6 month. So I gave this company a try hoping it would hold up longer...........I was not even able to get the first can open (and I have experience using these kind of openers). The edge was still all around attached but with a lot of little metal shavings. Some ending up in my fingers as I tried to pry the can open. Pure Junk

I didn't realize it was just one handle. It took a bit to get used to the one handle and just felt awkward. After opening a few cans it became easier and easier. This can opener is worth the money and is priced very reasonable.
