We have a nice, little vegetable garden that we've been working on expanding over the last few years. I've never canned anything because I never needed to. We ate everything as it ripened. This year, however, we will actually have surplus, and I know I'll need to learn how to store it. So, seeing this described as a "starter kit" got my attention quickly.I won't be able to actually use these pieces until the food ripens in a few months, but I did play with them, using the Mason jars and lids I already have. I really enjoyed myself (that might change when I HAVE to do it - haha). Everything included felt solid and didn't display any wonkiness as I used it. It took me a few tries to lift the bottles with the handy-dandy lifter thing, but once I got the hang of it (and used it right-side-up), it worked a charm.I'm very pleased with this and can hardly wait for July!

I love canning, but I’m not trying to play hot potato with a jar of scalding green beans. This kit is a game-changer. The jar lifter has saved my fingers from certain doom (and possibly third-degree burns), and the funnel is wide enough to avoid sauce volcanoes on the counter. Everything has a purpose, and it all works like it should. It literally comes with everything you need for first-time canning. No guesswork, no last-minute store runs for a weirdly specific tool. If you’re new to canning or just tired of living dangerously in the kitchen, this set is your new best friend. Bonus points: I felt like a domestic goddess with every jar I filled. Highly recommend.

Useful set of canning supplies. The magnet appears to be strong. The set arrived a bit dirty but I threw them in the top rack of the dishwasher and they cleaned up well. There were no care instructions but they appear to be safe in the dishwasher based on my experience.I’ve removed one star because the joint of the jar tongs was rather loose - it will only stay clasped if you are actively holding it closed, which is not my usual experience with this type of tongs. (My sister’s canning jar tongs are much stiffer and are easier to use when picking up jars out of boiling water.)

Several years ago, if you would have asked random people on the street “do you believe consumer prices would rise to such a point families would struggle” as cost of living increased. With the increase costs for fresh food we decided to double the amount of food we’re growing in our back yard garden. We started trying to grow a few vegetables 3 years ago. Our first year was not successful. After talking with several backyard raised garden growerswe double our produce from the first year. This is our third year, and we’ve already started to see an increase in produce.Over the winter my wife and I started buying supplies to can our vegetables. if you don’t have a way to can your vegetables they will only keep for a short amount of time. This 6 piece canning set is everything you lneed to complete your canning, except your pressure cooker. We did not have these tools last year. Our canning success turned out to be less than what we expected. This set comes with jar wrench, a magnet Lid lifter, a bubble popper, canning tong, a wide mouth funnel and the Jar lifter. Once you’ve picked enough vegetables to fit in your jars, you then put them in a water bath or a pressure cooker. This set of canning tools is all you will need to prepare your jars for canning. When it’s time to remove your jars from the hot bath you will have everything needed to put them on your cooling racks. These tools will last year after year. We are wanting to grow enough vegetables to last us until the following canning season. We are considering buying one of these for each of children. In the next two weeks we will be canning everything we’ve picked. We already have our second growth under the up lights, and if weather holds we will get a third harvest

This Canning Tool Kit is great for first-time canners. It comes with all the tools you’ll need to enjoy the experience of canning your own food. Different foods need different timings to kill bacteria and to get a strong vacuum seal. Here is are a few things you want to have ready before you start putting your jars into boiling water.• A LARGE THICK METAL bottom cook pot. I you don’t have one like this, place a pie pan on the bottom to prevent scorching the bottom of the food in your jars. Place a TOWEL on the counter to lessen the shock of a cold counter that can crack the glass. Have a TIMER ready for the specific food you are canning and the time it requires to kill bacteria and vacuum seal your jars.• SANITIZE your jars and lids. Heat your pot water to a boil, including a separate SMALLER pot for lids. Use the TONGS to place the jars into the LARGE POT and boil for about 15 seconds. Put the lids into the smaller pot and turn off the heat. The tongs will allow you to pick up jars, turn them over and drain the water. The set comes with a handy MAGNETIC stick to pick up the hot lids. Place all the parts onto the towels to cool for handling.• Most caners find that using WIDE MOUTH jars are easier for loading. This is where the wide mouth FUNNEL is especially nice to have. DON'T fill the jars to the top. Leave about 1/4-1/2” of space to reduce boil over into the pot and ruin your food.• Use the BUBBLE REMOVER for jams, pickling, and sauces to get the air out and create the optimum use of your jar. Only put the lids on light enough to close the jars and then give a small QUARTER TURN to allow for the vacuum to create itself and the seal the jar .• SET TIMER for the allotted time for the type of food being canned. Use the JAR LIFTER to place your jars in boiling water and to get your extremely hot jars out of the boiling water. Don’t forget when taking jars out of the boiling water to place them on the towel, NOT the counter.• The cooling jars are STILL creating a stronger vacuum. When completely cooled use the JAR WRENCH to carefully tighten the SCREW BAND seal a little more. After the jars are completely cooled place them in a COOL DARKEND space for later to enjoy.• Later you may need the JAR WRENCH once again to loosen the screw band to open the jar. The vacuumed SEALED LID should be DIFFICULT to open with just your hands. This is when a LID LIFTER comes in handy. You don’t want the jar to slip from your hands, so place BOTTOM flat on a towel. With the jar on the towel put your hands around the jar. Caress the back of the jar down with the palms of your hands and place the lifter on the outer edge. Use the lifter to gently lift the lid with some muscle. You should hear a POP if the jar was sealed correctly. Now you're ready to enjoy the foods of your labor.RATING: I'm giving this set to my daughter, and this is my review of the quality of this set. It is good quality and a great value worthy of 5 Stars.HELPFUL INFORMATION to consider for first-time canners.NEW CANNERS should research and learn for themself how to be a successful canner. Suggest using family recipes and tested techniques or trusted personalities on YouTube with years of experience. WHY, because there is more to canning than getting a good vacuum seal. There are chemicals that are naturally in foods you’ll need to know about for canning safely. All foods contain pH and acidic levels. That is where canned food safely starts. Foods with a low pH and a high acidic level of 4.6 or less are great for canning fruits and pickling vegetables.Foods like sauces containing vegetables and meats have higher levels of pH and are considered to have low-acid levels. This is where you’ll need natural additives for killing bacteria. This type of canning ALSO requires using a HIGH-PRESSURE COOKER so the additives can do their job to kill bacteria. I HOPE this little extra helps you to have better SUCCESS.
