If you have ever used a fire extinguisher the powder goes everywhere. This fire blanket is perfect for a stove or toaster fire. It will contain the flames without ruining the area. If it does not work you should be evacuating the area because the fire is out of control. We used items like this in the military when there was cutting or welding to protect surrounding material from catching on fire it always worked well.

I have little doubt that this blanket will work as intended in put out fires. We had one ready to deploy decided not to use it. When we tried to refold it there were dozens and dozens of tiny fiberglass threads which embedded in our skin. Felt like stinging nettles. So I'd say cloth is functional but a bit dangerous. Use and throw out perhaps.
