This is such an adorable little container that sits under my sink and also does it's job really well: the top seals well and no smell gets out (while nothing else gets in...). I do always put a bad inside; it seems like it would be annoying to clean out without one.

We ordered this bin because it was reasonably priced, and fit with our kitchen decor. We like the removable bin on the inside, but the ring seal on the lid fell out after several uses. While it's fairly easy to put the seal back on, it isn't particularly tight, so smells do leak out - so I'd recommend tossing the bin in your compost several times a week, rather than once or twice a week. I think that I'd rather have spent more money on another product, but this will suffice for now. It isn't awful, but it isn't fabulous, either.

Awesome bin! Seals tightly so that there is never any smell, and the design of the bin makes it very appealing to have it on the counter.

It looks nice, that was the main reason for getting it. But it fills up fast, and we're just a family of four.In addition, the insert doesn't come out too easily, often resulting in the handle detaching. Not the nicest thing when it's full of food you're about to compost. Finally the lid is OK, but the seal is just OK. Buy if you're less lazy than we are and plan to empty it on a daily basis.

I am so happy with this purchase. This is just the right size for my boyfriend and I. We empty it every couple of days and that's plenty for us. If we have guests for a meal we do empty it more frequently but I've never found myself wishing it were bigger. It seals tightly to keep smells inside and opens easily. It also looks really attractive on my counter and we get a lot of compliments on it. This is a great little bucket! Highly recommended.

I spent a lot of time comparing various composting buckets and went along with this one because it was the only one that had the internal bucket that comes out. I like the idea of the outer bucket not suffering any banging and wear from the daily trek out to the compost heap and the tapping of the bucket on the side to get everything out, which always results in a warped can and the lid never fits quite right. The internal bucket eliminates that and because it's plastic, it doesn't warp as easily as the metal buckets i have had in the past. The major flaws of this bucket however are the flimsy handles on the inner plaster bucket. Obviously was not tested to see if the design worked! It really is just a hole on each side with a piece of wire for the handle that stick into the hole curving into the hole with a couple of mm extending out to catch the bucket into place. The wire pops out of the holes all the time. The trick with it is that you have to take out the compost every day. If you are someone who waits for the bucket to fill up, then reaches in for the little dainty wire handle, you can bet that about 10 steps out the door the handles will pop out from the weight of the contents and you will have compostables all over your kitchen floor. If the bucket is only half full, the handles stay in place. I think during the winter when it gets really cold and i have more time to fiddle with it, i will rig up something so that the handles don't slip but for now, taking more frequent trips to the compost pile is fine for me. Besides having the inner bucket, another thing that is great is the lid. It has a wonderful seal around it to ensure a good seal that not even the most crafty of fruit flies can get in. I read in one review that the plastic bucket retains smells. I have not found that but i also compost daily so things are not rotting and stinking up the plastic container. The plastic bucket also get a nice rinse with vinegar and water after each use and it's still white and not smelly. Overall, this bucket is great with a very easy flaw of the handles that is fixable. Great value for the price.

I was expecting a much larger bin in a green ceramic type finish with the word compost on it instead of the small stainless steel bin i received

Don't waste your money on this grossly overpriced bucket. To start with, it's small. The actual holding capacity of the liner is less than a coffee can. It's very cheaply constructed. After just a few months in use:The outer bucket is warped so the lid no longer fits snuglyThe seal on the lid pops off all the timeThe screws attaching the handle to the lid have rustedThe handle for the inner liner bucket snapped off. The ends of the handle where it attaches to the bucket are just slightly flattened wire instead of being bent or snapped onto anything, so when it got pulled out it widened the hole in the liner bucket and will no longer stay attached. The liner is nearly impossible to remove without a handle. The liner bucket is low quality plastic. It's stained, scratched and it absorbs odors, so even though I wash it every time I empty it (nearly every day) it stinks like garbage.Condensation gathers inside the lid and gets under the seal and rolled metal edge of the lid, where it's nearly impossible to clean adequately. It keeps growing mold from the cracks where it can't be cleaned and never completely dries. We use this bucket primarily for coffee grounds and banana peels. Nothing overly offensive. It's in constant use, emptied regularly, cleaned often and not subjected to unusual usage. It may be fine as a decorative piece but I'm not interested in decorative. For the price I expected something solid and durable - not a cheap plastic bucket in a flimsy metal can that I can easy bend with my bare hands. It gets one star only for looking nice on the counter, where mine won't be for much longer. As soon as I get a replacement this one goes in the recycle bin with the other trash.

I did the cutsey thing, and the electric thing, and the worm thing. All were disappointing. Then I got this simple bucket with an interior bucket and well-fitting lid and keep it by my trash cash in my kitchen. I put a liner inside to make it easier to empty into my large compost bin in the garden. This works well for me. No odor (except when it is filling and you lift the lid to add). Neutral design. I love it!

I received this bucket as a gift a year ago and have since given it as a gift to three of my family members. I love how nice it looks. It sits on my countertop, so it's easily accessible while I cook. It contains smells very well because of the seal on the lid. It's easy to clean because the inner bucket is plastic and removable. The only negative I've experienced is the black lettering on the front has smeared a little after I cleaned the metal outer bucket. I didn't scrub it or use harsh cleaner, so I'm disappointed in that. I have the light green color, which I prefer, but it was not available when I ordered Christmas gifts this year.

The bin is a good looking item and is the right size, even for a busy household. Nice to have a removable and easily washable interior bin. But it started going rusty very quickly and is now almost unusable as it leaves rust rings on the countertop and on cloths used to dry it. The seal works well but needs to be taken off regularly for cleaning and then is very difficult to get back on again.

Love the look of this bin, and the seal is excellent keeping all "nasty niffs" at bay. My only criticism is that after only a few weeks, the rivets holding the handle on the lid have started to rust!
