I'm no couch mechanic but the leg rest on my recliner gave out recently. All other functions were operating normally so I watched a few troubleshooting videos and decided to do a motor swap. Couch runs great now!

So I wanted a cabinet that had a hidden compartment in the top. To make that happen I put long slides on the sides and one on the back. I was able to create the lifting top but needed a mechanical mechanism to move it. I attached a metal bracket to the top and then attached that to the plastic by drilling holes and using bolts. My cabinet top is 32" wide by 18" deep and this moves it up and down without issue.Great actuator for you special project!
