This sharpens significantly faster than I expected. I like that it’s portable and I can just throw it in my pack. It’s light weight. Both grits are nice and usable for somebody that just wants to maintain axes and knives in the field. I was worried that the price was more likely due to Gransfors Bruks’s name and import taxes, but after using it I’m happy to have paid it.

I purchased this after my small forest got a couple of knicks. I got them out and was able to get it sharp enough to shave the hairs on my arm. Me personally am just a guy from Oklahoma who loves to be outdoors but if your reading this. It’s a must have.

Exactly what I’ve come to expect from Gränsfors Bruk. Great and very handy for keep the axe bevels just where you want them. I still use a super fine stone on my carving axes, but for damage repair and to get to that great cutting edge on any axe, this is wonderful. Again I use extra fine stones and stroping on my equipment. But for most axes and for bushcraft or back pack this is perfect.

This thing is great! To get axes this sharp before was a quite laborious process involving several stones and strops. This one compact unit does a great job by itself.I will keep my Lansky puck on hand for machetes and such, and for repairing nicks, but the GB puck is now my go-to for axes. I would also be comfortable using it for field-maintenance for convex-grind knives. The design and form factor are also really nice. Small enough to take in the field. The neoprene (?) case not only protects the stone from drops but also makes it easy to hold with your fingers far from the edge.

I've purchased a few stones, Sharp Pebble 400/1000 which I received with this, and a Chosera 3000 which is on the way. My experience with stones is limited to cheap crap from hardware stores and a nice unknown old school 1x1x6 ish hand me down from my grandfather (which isn't flat by any means). Needless to say IDK where the cheap one's went (trash I assume) and the work horse was my possibly 800 grit ish water stone hand me down. I have every day carry knives that I use... most would say abuse... and need more aggressive grit, and more than I wanted to do with this old stone. I have a field bag and now a nice THAWK axe I got for Christmas and thought I wanted a nice travel stone. This is it, I haven't received my Chosera yet, but I can say to date right now this Bruks is the nicest stone I've ever purchased. I wouldn't use this without water, I soaked mine (don't know if that's really bad for this stone or not) and had to keep adding water to the surface to keep water on top. It just seemed to leak right through (on the bench), was better when i got smart and put the rubber cap on the other side. Physically feels very nice both dry and wet, and the feed back is very nice with water on top and even when it has soaked in. Works great when used the way it was designed to, in your hand and dragging it along an axe. Though I am still learning that technique. Over all first impressions are that it's very high quality and no noticeable wear after a few sharpenings. Clear case of you get what you pay for.

I'm certainly not new to sharpening. I've been sharpening my plane blades, chisels and knives long enough to have it down to a few simple steps. Axes have been a challenge. Until I bit the bullet and bought the Transfers Bruks Ceramic Grinding/Sharpening stone. I had a hatchet I'd worked on for days with diamond sharpening plates and diamond diafold sharpeners. I could get it sharp, but never as sharp as I felt it could be. Today I used the Transfers Bruks stone on the hatchet and it was slicing through paper with ease in a matter of minutes. It's just easier to use this little puck on an axe head than it is to try it with plates and the like.Comes in soft case that holds the stone while you use it, fits in a pocket or pack with ease so you can take it with you for touch ups on the go. I can't recommend this enough. I'm sorry it took me so long to spend the money and get it. I do not regret the money I spent, only the time it took me to decide to spend it.
