Your cart is empty.Converts your lathe's #2MT dead tailstock to a live tailstock with a 1/2" drill chuck mounted. Mounts to tailstock with the included #2 Morse Taper arbor. Spins with ball bearings. After being mounted, tailstock is converted from dead to live and it will accept mandrels, dowels, tenons, or any shaft up to 1/2" in diameter. Ideal for an additional secure workpiece mount from tailstock end; Allows centering and gripping of spindles or dowels at the tailstock end. For drilling drilling capability, TM32 is available separately.

I received this item yesterday and thought it was a really great idea. Unfortunately the drill chuck is a cheep piece of junk. I am turning small wood pieces, and this tail stock chuck is about worthless. Under normal use, a slight vibration of the lathe, the chuck vibrates open, even when the chuck is clamped down tight. If the chuck had a left hand thread to tighten or if the chuck were a keyless chuck, it might work, If I keep the tool, I will try to replace the chuck with a good keyless chuck. The other problem with the chuck is that it is massive. It has so much weight that it tends to rotate to open the chuck.I have tried to find a way that it can be salvaged. I have tried to tighten the chuck on the work to the point that I have crushed the work in the chuck, but it still loosens. The only way I can use it is by using files instead of lathe tools to work the piece. I am an experienced wood turner with 40 years experience. I do not like using files instead of lathe tools to cut wood.

The only live chuck I can find that accepts a 1/2" shank. Has a tiny bit of play but it does the job.

Solid! Superb smooth ball races; turns incredibly freely and smoothly, with no slack whatsoever. The drill chuck is a little rough to open and close, but has no visible runout with 6" long drill chucked in it, (so maintains absolute centring). Only deficit is that the MT-2 tapered stem is slightly too short to make contact with the automatic release in the tailstock, and the end is not tapped, (as is sometimes done), to accept a short bolt or stud to make it slightly longer. I turned a little metal bead, with a stub stem to fit into the hole in the end of the stem, and glued it in place. Works perfectly. Highly recommended, and excellent value for the money. And an excellent way to create a live centre to accept turnings with a centre hole about which to turn, (in my case, spinning wheel bobbins).

Well constructed 3 jaw drill chuck, that runs true on it’s live tailstock bearing race. Makes it a simple process to create and use my own steel mandrels, in any diameter I need for my woodturning tasks.

this is a very nice wood lathe accessoryi turn model wheels from wood using an axlethis just fit the ticket to hold outboard end of the axle

Certainly not a precision chuck. There is 10 thousands runout on mine. Probably fine for a wood lathe but not for a metal lathe. It appears most of the run out is in the chuck itself so I am hoping replacing the poor quality chuck with something better will make it useable for my purposes. Buy Chinese tooling and take a chance, you might be luckier than me.
