I like this plug not only for the GFCI but also the USB ports that I use to charge phones and tablets right at the kitchen counter. Very convenient. I have experience as an apprentice electrician and installed it myself, however, I recommend having an electrician install it.

Now visitors and family can charge their devices without trying to find USB plug to stick into the outlet and take up one outlet source. Handy for my devices as well.

I wanted specifically a GFI with integrated USB and this fit the bill perfectly. Unfortunately when I received it I discovered it was an incredibly deep unit, requiring a lot of space and depth in the electrical box. These will work best for new construction where you can arrange extra deep boxes, or can ensure there isn't too much wiring or wire nuts in the box behind the outlet. It was very challenging for me to install and still is not quite sitting flush with my drywall.

I originally bought a set of Leviton GFCI USB outlets but return them as their design included wiring that needed to be tied to the existing wiring. Perhaps if I had more experience with wiring, I could have resolved it easy but seeing that I'm a novice, I was unable to make them fit in the existing box. I purchased this set specifically to make sure I don't have to tie wiring into my existing wiring..Everything installed great and my GFCI tester tripped these every time! The USB ports allow my wife to not have to disconnect her toothbrush or smart watch charger when she needed to plug in her hair dryer or curling iron. (I did have to install a short power extension cord for her... See below)I also set one up in our basement bathroom as I have both a full size clipper and beard trimmer that both charge via USB. I also plan to install a side make up mirror with magnification and an LED lamp that uses USB to get power.*You just need to be mindful of larger power adapters as they can cover up your USB ports..

All GFCI + USB outlets seem to be much bigger than normal ones -- mainly deeper. In fact, there's not much room left in a standard electrical box. I point this out because before I bought this unit, I bought a different brand (Leviton) and had to return it. The reason is that the other unit did NOT use standard screw terminals. Instead, it came with factory-installed pig-tails, and thus required FIVE wire nuts (only two of which were provided in the box). There simply was no room in my box for the outlet plus the five wire nuts. So yes, the use of traditional screw terminals was an important feature I never even considered. And yes, the product installed fine and worked as expected. The GFCI it replaced didn't have USB and was failing - tripping when it shouldn't. A nice improvement over that outlet is that this one has a little red LED that glows when it is in the tripped state. Far easier to see than whether a little button is in or out. Also the buttons on this are nice white matching the outlet color, vs. the black and red buttons on the old one. Sadly, the USB outlets themselves have black plastic inside, which does mar the look a bit. White plastic USB outlets not only exist, but some of the competitor outlets have them. Minor, minor point, especially if you can't even install the competing product!
