About this item

  • ONE BIT FOR ALL DRILLING: Come with 19 sizes (3/16", 9/32", 3/8", 7/16", 17/32", 5/8", 11/16", 25/32", 7/8", 29/32", 31/32", 1", 1-1/16", 1-1/8", 1-5/32", 1-7/32", 1-9/32", 1-5/16", 1-3/8"), saving your time and efforts to change bits
  • DURABLE AND STRONG: Genuine M2 high speed steel with the black coating ensures durability and sharpness, reduces the friction, runs cooler, performs well in heat, corrosion and rust resistance, for longer cutting edge life even at extreme temperatures
  • EXTRA LARGE STEPS DRILL: 19 size multiple hole stepped up bits, have many steps which contain multiple diameters, convenient to drill different hole size by using a step drill rather than many drills, ideal for DIY projects at home, garden, workshop
  • HIGH PERFORMANCE: 118 degrees split point tip increase the wear resistance. Two flute design provides a smoother cutting, allows the material particles escape easily for a much more clean drilling operation, can be used on electrical drill, cordless drill
  • WELL DESIGNED: Provides stability during the drilling process, minimizes noise and vibration, which improves work efficiency and safety, bringing a smoother and quieter drilling experience

Ok for some things but for hardened steel, this blade will not cut

The first thing I like about this drill bit is its tip - about 1/8" and straight, so the pilot hole can be easily and quickly made, and the initial drilling can start in better precision. The shank, measured 5/16", fit in my hand-held power drills of all kinds well. But after initial use I realized I need more practice with it to get good results, which are not always straightforward matters. Depending on the type of material I want to bore, I don't always get consistent results. Softer materials, such as vinyl, are easier on the drill bit but are harder to control. I found it work best on a drill press because controlling the drill bit step advancement is more precise and much easier than the free-hand operation. The stepping drill bit comes in a plastic case for individual storage and protection, which I like. However, it is a bit flimsy therefore would likely not last as long as the drill bit itself. One word of caution: Make sure to hold or, better yet, to clamp the work down well when drilling/boring. Often when the drill bit progresses onto the next step under the forward/downward force it can suddenly bind into the work and cause it to spin out of control, which can be dangerous.

What is not to like about this Uni-bit step drill. The Amazon web page says it all. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09L8MWNVK)I used to struggle with individual bits to get the right size hole. If the hole was not big enough, I had to dig around my tool chest to find the next size up. Many times, I did not have the next size up. That was before I learned about Uni-Bit. This has such a nice range too - 3/16 to 1 3/8. This is so important. I can now get the job done faster. Please note:1) the 3/8 inch shank has 6 sides to lock into my drill chuck. Unlike older 4 sided bits that would slip. Not this one.2) Also, Uni-bits work best on thin material like sheet metal or thin wood. If thick, the hole is conical so you may have to drill from the other side also and remove the inner part of the hole with another drill. Just think about the physics of using a cone drill going through thick material. But glad I got this one for my tool chest.

I have 3 stock watering troughs that are going to be planters so I needed to drill a total of 36 large holes in relatively thin galvanized steel. Advertised as for hard metal and heavy duty. After 5 holes the tip would no longer drill through the metal. I had a cheap 3/8" drill bit for metal which I have used a lot. It punched through the other 31 holes no problem. I then inserted this bit into the drill and just managed to get all 31 additional holes drilled. The bit didn't drill the full size diameter as shown but did get just under an inch size. By the last hole it was so dull it could barely complete the hole. The job was done and the bit is done. I expected the bit to hold up much better considering what I paid for it.Not recommended.

This is an effective step drill. Any type of ferrous or non-ferrous metals it will work best with cutting oil or cutting fluid. Did not seem to be the most aggressive at material removal, but if you are patient it will work. After repeated use, still appears to be sharp.

This is a fairly standard step bit, in imperial units, with 19 hole sizes from 3/16 to 1-3/8. I use these types of bits frequently to drill through aluminum project boxes. The boxes are a bit thicker than sheet metal, but not super thick (about 1.4 mm). This bit cuts through them just as well as any of my other step bits, and better than some of the other low-cost bits I’ve tried in the past. I’d say, for the price, and the wide range (19 hole sizes), this bit is a pretty good value. Probably because its so wide, it comes with a plastic box, instead of a fabric pouch like the thinner bits do.I really like the wide range, so I don’t have to keep multiple bits on hand, or keep swapping out different sized bits as I drill a range of hole sizes. I’ve only drilled one box so far, so I’m not sure about the lifespan of this bit, but for now it’s working fine. 5 Stars.
