M1907 Sling Installation Instructions
First, Ensure your Weapon is Clear! and Unloaded.
The M1907 Sling can be somewhat daunting at a first glance to the first time user. This photo series should help the novice decipher the "mystery" that is the M1907 sling and how to install it on a rifle.
The sling components:
There is a long strap and a short strap. The long strap has two small leather "keeper" loops on it.
Step 1:
Put the short strap through the rear sling swivel so that the metal O ring is nearest the stock and the side of the strap with the hooks is on the outside - with the hooks facing the stock.
Step 2:
Take the end of the long strap that does not have a hook on it and slide it through the O ring on the short strap. Leave one of the leather keepers on the long strap, so its in between the O ring and the metal hooks.
Step 3: Slide the end of the long strap through the keeper you left on in Step 2. Hook the short strap just below the hook on the long strap.
Step 4:
Put the 2nd sling keeper on the long strap, then slide the end of the long strap through the front sling swivel.
Recheck
Step 5
Slide the long strap back through the keeper. Hook the front hook into the long strap.
Completed:
This completes the basic installation of the M1907 sling on the M1 Garand. The same instructions apply to the M1903 Springfield.
The M1907 sling can be loosened and tightened (dressed) on the rifle without unhooking the sling. This can be done by grasping the long strap at the top and bottom and sliding it against itself to loosen or tighten the sling. This portion takes a bit of practice as well as "wear" on the sling. A brand new sling will not move as freely as a well used sling. This simply takes time, oil and use.

Heavy duty leather and solid brass hardware. You will need to have the 1 1/4” rifle sling rings to attach to the gun. This is a cool traditional military style sling. The only thing is I wish the brass hooks matched the finish of the antique brass oval ring.

Well made and looks great. The single complaint I have is that the rivet used to hold the short end brass fitting is just a touch too tall and I had to use a punch to flatten it then use a metal rod to force it through the butt plate sling holder. After that, it went on quickly and looks great.

I am an old school Marine and was taught the use of a sling for all positional shooting. This one fits the bill perfectly, nice heavy leather, very adjustable. If you just want something to throw over your shoulder, you can buy anything comfortable, but if you know how to actually use a sling, this is excellent. And if you don’t know the advantages of a good sling I strongly suggest that you look into it. You won’t want to go back.
