Product Description

Distinctive gold Bits, Bearings and Pivot Pin signify the longest lasting, fastest cutting, easiest adjusting solution for cutting holes in sheet metal. Malco Hole Cutters quickly install into the chuck of any corded or cordless drill as small as 1/4" (6.4 mm). Lightweight aluminum frames make these accessories extremely portable for a variety of hole cutting applications in sheet metal including 22-gauge (.759 mm) galvanized steel. A compact model HC1 Hole Cutter is adjustable for making 2 to 12" (51 to 305 mm) diameter holes. The larger HC2 model cuts 2 to 20" (51 to 508 mm) holes. A combination English/Metric diameter gauge is included on the adjustable pivot slide for both models and both models use the same mill-type Cutter Bit and replacement parts.

First time use. No instructions on how to use. Had to search around and found some basic Videos which does help, but more questions answered would have helped. Almost impossible to see and understand the Measurement marks to set your hole diameter. Cut a test hole and re-adjust your hole cutter diameter setpoint. Was replacing an AC Plenum. highly recommend first time users to cut out some practice holes in the old plenum first or another piece of sheet metal. I had problems. the first hole I tried to cut, the adjustable center piece on the cutter, sitting down in the middle of the hole, moved and slid a little as I was cutting the hole, so the hole got bigger, as I cut. I believe this was due to me not cutting at an angle and was pulling on it too much. Always turn clockwise and tilt at an angle and only go as fast as the cutter bit will allow. Don;t force it harder. I went much slower then the video;s showed and stopped and re positioned my hands to continue. Holes look perfect. Be-burred the hole edges a little afterwards and Duct taps fit perfectly.

Just use a self tapper or 1/4 zip screw then let the drill bit eat. Must have for hvac installers during summer.

Love these things. Do HVAC duct work installations, predominately metal duct work. Used many of them borrowed from co-workers. Bought this because we needed another. First hole worked beautifully. Then... the second hole and third weren't so, well round. The set screw slid from where I set it, locked it tight, but the paint caused it to slide out of place. Then when I tightened it more, the center pin broke. No worries had a backup. But the paint makes it slip from the setting, suggest scrape the paint off where the pin slides, just either side of the pin set. I'd go the entire length that way when you need to set for multiple holes, you won't have it slip on you.

This tool is the ticket. I have been doing maintenance work for some 40 years now and in my "favorite tool" box this is kept. I took on project of replacement and upgrade of my home HVAC duct system and without this I would have had many stiches from sheet metal snips. If you work with duct work and you like professonal results get one of these. Great tool!!
