Like many, I read the comments and reviews and was leery about buying this. To date, I only had one issue, which was getting my old tablet (circa 2012) to "locate" the Wi-Fi signal and connect to it. Turns out, my tablet only likes 2.6ghz connections and I had to change a setting on the Wi-Fi app to fix it. Because of that, I rate this router 4 stars.

I've bought 3 of these, for main house, son's house and vacation Home. Great product I like this particular model but haven't tried others. I replaced my older Motorola modem in main house with this newer one, still great product.

I bought this to replace the modem/router combo I’ve been renting from my ISP. It connected at first but, within the first day, it lost the internet connection and could not regain it. I tried troubleshooting through the app, the Motorola tech support, and my ISP tech support. We finally narrowed the problem down to this piece of junk. I returned it for a refund but it cost me an entire weekend of troubleshooting then I had to reconnect the rented modem/router then reconnect all my devices to the network. Royal PITA!

works great with my wifi and cable TV provider and now I don't have to pay their monthly rental fees every month. Totally worth it

I needed to upgrade my modem to handle higher speeds (from Mediacom) so after researching I chose Motorola! It’s easy to set up and it is blazing connections, functionality is great, and can definitely deliver speed! I was warned that the arrival date was long, but I wanted Motorola !

This is my second one. Don't know why my first one quit working. Speed on this is perfect for what I use it for. Streaming is great.

I really labored over this purchase. I read every review and opinion out there. I was hesitant to buy the refurbished over the new. In the end I bought the refurbished. Not for price discount but strictly because of the 90 day return policy over the 30 days for the new. It came packaged and looked like new. I have to report this was super easy to install. No issues whatsoever. Some reviewers said old passwords were embedded in the refurbished modems causing problems initially with installations. This wasn’t my experience. I simply phoned my carrier and gave them the info on the bottom of the modem and it’s been working perfectly ever since. Even the tech commented on the speed. I don’t have a need for screaming fast internet, I’m an average user but it was fast enough for the tech to comment. So completely happy so far.

As a stand alone, it works great, but our walls are like a maze so I got an extender that is dual band. So I disabled the router's original 2.4 ghz radio signal because the extender has one and after wifi analytics, I put the 5 ghz on a different channel. We get top speeds by wifi! The 2.4 ghz from the repeater/extender reaches our doorbell camera too. I also set the channel for the 2.4 ghz. Wifi analytics is a great tool to show what channels your neighbors are using but netspot is good for seeing hidden SSID's and what channels they are using. The modems config page is easy to navigate and I modified our DNS server to a faster one. I use a DNS speed app to see the fastest one. There is an mg8702 user guide online you can tab and read over. Overall I am very happy with this modem/router combo. Upgraded from 3.0 and i can really tell the difference!! I do speed tests and get great results. Especially after I installed the extender. I downloaded the app speedtest by ookla. Do the speed tests with your VPN off. You should get 1/2 to 2/3 of your alotted speed from your isp on wifi. Tech support told me this. I have 500 down and get 300 mbps on the speed test on 5ghz. 100 on 2.4 ghz. Tech support said this is perfectly normal but my isp techs don't know this concept. They think you should get your total allotted speed down on wifi and had me go through all kinds of troubleshooting ugh!!! Ethernet, you will get higher numbers.
