The photo looks like an average size 9-11 year old, my Grandson is 11 and this is way too small. It would be great for a 5-7 year old.

I bought this for my teen daughter who loves sharks. It fits well, the hood is large enough to cover her face so she can "hide" when she's feeling unfriendly while traveling (this is often, she's a teen). She says it is very comfy, neck pillow is sturdy. And, truly, it just looks hilarious, so it puts me in a good mood watching her be antisocial.I did not notice a smell upon opening, and she has not complained about one, so I would say it is good to go out of the package.
