Pros: I love that I don't spill with this. I have time to get the gas can into position, and if you position it so that the red part facing forward, the edge of the gas tank with push the red bit back and allow the gas to flow.Cons: The red bit is fragile. Treat it gently, or you will have to replace it. Note: my husband is not gentle.

Replacement for one I lost the cap for. I dislike this enough I purchased a new gas can. hard to fill my push mower with this spout. Worked fine for my rider. Works as it should, just didn't work for me.

I bought this to replace a leaky/busted fuel spout on my 5 gallon gas can. This one seems a bit more sturdy than the one that came with the can originally. The lock is a bit annoying IMO so if you want you can pop the lock outside of the channel so it doesn't catch. This will allow you to use the spout a bit easier since trying unlock it and pour at the same time can be tricky if you don't have 3 hands and you're trying hold up 40 pounds of fuel.

Although sold as a Stens product, this is actually made by Midwest Can. Stens is just the distributor (they sell lots of replacement parts and accessories for outdoor equipment). This is a Midwest Can model 4240. This fits a wide variety of Midwest Can models for gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and water. It may also fit other brands of cans as well. Be aware that this spout has an integral vent (air return) and is therefore intended to be used with cans that don't have a separate vent. While the spout works well, I have found a minor liability. The one I had on one of my cans had a cracked collar when I went to used it the other day. I try to keep the spout sealed tight to avoid leaks when I go to used it. It appears that when the weather turned cold and the plastic shrunk and also became more brittle it cracked, making the spout useless. To be clear, the 2 pictures of the cracked spout are not of the replacement I purchased, but an identical one that came with the can when I bought it a few years ago. I recommend keeping the collar barely 2-finger tight when storing the can. The downside to this is that it really needs to be tighter when you pour from the can or it will leak so remember to snug it up before using it. This is why I only gave it 4 stars overall and 4 stars for the "leak proof" rating. Previously I did not realize that the red disc that comes with the spout fits over the end of the nozzle as a "dust cap". The Western Can model 8610 I use this with sells for about $31 here but can be found at HF and TS for about $20. This means the spout is roughly 1/4 to 1/3 the price of a replacement can but still worth it if you've broken or lost one. I wish Stens wouldn't put their own label over the instructions on the back. It's not complicated to figure how this works but it seems like there should be better place for them to put their label.

These work better then the ones from Walmart. the ones from walmart are the "Garage Boss" brand. this wallmart brand require to push and hold a button on top of the nozzle to work, they are hard to hold down and break in less then a year, once broken, they leak gas all over the place. Also, the can only has one handle on top. The "Midwest Can" (sold here and at 3bears) brand nozzle and can are both better then the walmart brand. The Midwest Can has 2 handles (1 on top & 1 on the back side) and a better nozzle design that does not require you to hold down a button to work. The design also means it will not over fill and spill. The midwest can also works with Yeshama heater fuel tank standpipe for my RV diesel heaters that work great for under $200.00. I recomend using brass magicfour fuel gas can vent caps if using the can for a gas/diesel tank so it doesnt get air bound.

This is the spout Midwest Can should have put on their gas and diesel jugs from the start. While not perfect, it is a great improvement. They should, but apparently do not, offer these as a free replacement for the terrible original spouts. The original spouts had problems too numerous to list all. Perhaps most glaring was that they were extremely slow to pour fuel. When I timed it, it took 7 minutes and 58 seconds to pour 5 gallons with the original spout. This new design did the same 5 gallons in 2 minutes 25 seconds, beating the claim on the packaging that these are "up to 2.5 times faster." I would like to see a still faster time, but can tolerate this. There is a red safety latch that needs to be depressed for fuel to dispense. At least when new it is easy to depress that, and it then stays in the unlocked position. If ever this becomes a problem it appears that it would be simple to pry that off with a screwdriver. It also appears that it would be easy to drill out the part of the spout that seals to prevent the flow of fuel. I have some equipment that have fuel fills that do not easily allow the hooks on spouts to catch and this could be a way to enable the fuel to be poured simply by inverting the can. Before doing this yourself, think it through carefully.Perhaps my greatest complaint is what passes for the spout cap. While it is possible to put that over the end of the spout it would be easy to knock it off allowing debris to get in the spout and then poured into your fuel tank. I thought it might be possible to use caps from my old Blitz cans but they fit too loosely. For the weak cap design I would take off 1/2 star if I could.Unlike the original spout, this replacement spout can be stored inside the can and the red cap can be used to keep dirt and debris out.Gas can spouts have generally become encumbered with features that impair functionality in the interest of safety and to be CARB compliant. In many cases these features actually make the spouts more dangerous and prone to spills. This is the first gas spout I have found for several years that I can endorse.
