Two Ti whistles claiming 120 dB: They are loud. My ears are unhappy about having been nearby when I gave it a blow. They were especially unhappy when I blew harder. And they are super light. In fact, they are half the weight of the lanyards provided to hold them. The whistles are 2g each and the lanyards 4g each. Physically, they are extremely small tubes, which will just hold up better. (Measurement just over a quarter inch shown seems about right.) No pea, just the single piece. The lanyards are a little odd in that the tough, thin portion to tie the whistle on is not a loop, but two ends, which makes doing a lark's head knot a little odd.

I picked up this set of whistles to throw into our hiking and camping gear for emergencies. They come with lanyards, which is super handy since these tiny things could easily get lost without them. However, getting a good whistle sound out of them isn’t the easiest task. If you don’t blow hard enough, it just sounds like air rushing through a tube. You really need some good lungs and to blow with some major force to make an effective whistle. I've found that the angle also needs to be just right to get a good sound output. When you do get it right though, these whistles can be really loud; so loud that it actually hurts my ears when I blow it. I had a few people give them a try, and the results were mixed; no one was able to consistently get a whistle out of them. I’m also curious about how well they would carry outdoors in a wilderness setting, especially if the wind is blowing. We tested them in my backyard, and we could barely hear them from one end to the other (about 60 feet). I’m giving these 3 stars because they come in a pair with lanyards and can produce a loud sound as long as the conditions are just right.
