Great train set for gross and fine motor skills (snapping the cars together, rolling the train, undoing the locks), and matching colors, numbers, and shapes. Fun and cute animals in every train box. You have to select the right key, using either the colors, or the shapes (each key has a differently colored shape on it that corresponds to the correct box). Differently-shaped keys unlock matching locks. The animals match to the corresponding train cargo box using both colors and dots (to represent the numbers). Kids can match up the animals to the cars and to the keys in a variety of ways. Once the train is assembled, you've got a fun conductor up front to "drive" it around. Thick plastic, bright colors, defined shapes, and overall, very well made. A great toy for toddlers and younger kids. My grandson will have a ball with this! Only thing, if it's a gift, don't open it and take things out as you will struggle to get them to fit back in.

The Match ‘n Roll Farm Number Train is a toy with many potential ways to play, and is designed for children ages 12 months and older. I ordered it to have at my house when my 1 year old grandson visits. Let me give you my grandma perspective on this toy…First, there are loads of ways to play with this, and that’s a huge plus for me. Most 12 month old children won’t likely understand how to make the locks and keys work at first, so I think it would be fun to take all the animals out of their houses and let them take rides on the train without using the houses at all. You could make a short train with just a few animals and cars, then add more later. Older kids might like to start with one lock and key, then introduce the next one as they are ready.I like that each house holds an animal of the same color, and the correct key is color coded as well as marked with the shape of the lock. The houses unlock with a quarter turn to the right. Additionally, each colorful house has a number on it, so you could also use them for counting games, sorting, and even as treat holders with small snacks. The build of this toy is fairly solid; the houses and keys are tough plastic, and the animals are made of softer plastic material. The train cars feel a little thin to me for the size, and I’m hoping they will hold up well. It’s definitely not something made for rough use. I think many kids will have some trouble connecting and disconnecting the cars from each other, you have to push them together pretty forcefully. This is the one place I’m concerned about possible breakage, and I wish the joints were thicker and easier to manipulate. In all, I really like this toy for all the possibilities for learning play and just having fun. I think it’s worth the price, but it’s at the top of what I consider a good value for the money.

What I love about this toy is that there are so many different ways to use it. That means kids will not get bored. I think they will totally love the "peek a boo" aspect where you can hide things and lock and unlock. And they can decide who goes where etc. so there is a lot of opportunity for decision making in how to play and how to use this toy. The colors are great, the toy is safe, and it will encourage learning and creativity. I like this very much. I think it will work for one child playing alone as well as 2 or more kids playing together. I do recommend this! The box it comes in is very colorful and pretty (so looks good for a gift) but not sure it will last forever so you might eventually need a plastic bucket to store this toy. Also, it is not so easy to fit everything back in the box. Would be great if it came in a bigger more durable container.
